Three years ago today I graduated from my 200 hour yoga teacher training program at Organic Roots. I had the incredible opportunity of living and working on the farm where the yoga studio is located during this time, which offered me an immersive learning experience of a lifetime. I’ll always hold this golden and transformational moment in time in the deepest gratitude of my heart.
The discipline required to successfully complete this program was new and scary. There were many ups and downs and ups as we made our way to graduation day. But we made it, together. ♥️
Since then I’ve taught in studios, breweries, galleries, parks, flower fields, libraries, private spaces, and places I never imagined I would. I’ve partnered with Suffolk Humane Society, bringing kitten yoga to local spaces, raising funds for a precious cause. I’ve taught classes with attendees at varying levels, who came to class for movement and stayed for the communities we’ve built together. And I’ve witnessed yoga become something different for each person who steps onto their mat on any given day.
Somewhere along the way, it became something different for me too.
I’ve learned yoga isn’t about having all the answers, or being the bendiest person in the room, or wearing whatever over priced yoga outfit is currently trending. It’s about connecting to your breath, creating space in your body, mind, and spirit. Slowing down, listening. It’s honoring where you are in the moment for true presence over performance, my most favorite quiet rebellion. It’s about remembering that every body, and every experience is different, even for the teacher!
Three is the magic number, and I’m still learning. Being a yoga instructor creates an eternal student in your soul. I recently enrolled in my next certification, a 150 hour meditation class to continue my education, and expand the possibilities.
Yoga has become a much bigger part of my life than I ever expected. The people I’ve met, connections and friends made, breathe life into me daily. So much of this journey has become an unlearning of sorts, and simply a need to show up with an open heart and an open mind. Always walking my authentic path.
