First, before you come at me: your body is a masterpiece of intelligence. It knows what to do.
Women love to comment "just wait until you're in menopause" when I talk about this after a decade in perimenopause.
They're right, I'm not there yet. That's exactly the point. I'm not waiting to find out.
My mom turned 79 this week. She never used HRT, and she looks 60. She inspires me everyday and is strong. My grandmother on my dad's side had dementia. I carry both of those stories, and they're exactly why I'm not leaving my own transition to chance.
Here's what I know. Symptoms aren't the beginning. They're the end stage and hormones are the messengers . Bone loss, heart disease and memory decline leave clues in your functional labs years before you feel a thing.
So here are the 5 things I do so I'm never guessing:
1. Check my minerals and vitamin D status. Calcium and vitamin D run the bone pathways estrogen protects.
2. Eat for my hormones, cholesterol included. Your s*x hormones are built from it. The low-fat era did women no favors.
3. Test inflammation. CRP, homocysteine and omega-3 tell me more about my heart than my birthday ever will.
4. Watch my heavy metal load. The research linking aluminum and Alzheimer's keeps growing, and almost no one is testing for it.
5. Keep circulation and intimacy alive. Blood flow supports tissue long before it starts to thin.
Women made it through perimenopause long before it was medicalized. The wisdom was never missing. The testing was.
Comment LABS and I'll send you the exact functional labs I run for my clients that your normal labs missed. 🪷
