I recently heard a webinar presented by Ms. Cynthia Hunt of TRMW. Quite an impressive system, indeed! Widespread adoption of course remains to be seen as they "roll out" this new product. American Society for Reproductive Medicine

Just listened to a lively discussion & debate on the issues associated with the determination & possible use of mosaic embryos. NGS has given greater insight regarding the degree of mosaicism. In turn, based on the % of normal vs abnormal cells, mosaic embryos can have the potential for successful implantation, and viable live birth. The long term effects as of now are, of course, unknown.

BioEdge: Crispr will lead to designer babies, says geneticist

This technology may well lead to important therapies down the road. However, the public discussion must focus on how far we want to go, when it comes to changing the human genome. Do we understand the unintended consequences of our actions? Evolution has been nature's way for change. It seems we are about to have access to a means for greater human "control" over the process.

It’s worthwhile knowing what the scientist behind the deveopment of CRISPR, the revolutionary gene-editing technology, thinks about the ethics of using it.

Sperm may hold clues to autism: DNA linked to symptoms

It's in the sperm man!

Scientists at Johns Hopkins University found links between DNA in men's sperm and distinct epigenetic tags that govern how genes act. They hope it could offer clues as to origins of the condition.

I heard a radio piece on Mitochondrial DNA transfer yesterday. Ova Science, based here in the USA, has not been able to obtain FDA approval for the technology. The radio interview was with a doctor in Toronto, Canada who is using the technology. There were others, however, in Canada including a public health official, and an ethicist who were not so enthusiastic about the introduction of this technology ahead of more thorough clinical trials.
