7 Important Intermittent Fasting Rules
1. Water, tea, and coffee are fine while fasting. 💧☕ I believe drinking water while fasting is beneficial. Certain types of tea may help you fast longer and reduce hunger. Coffee is fine too, but don’t overdo it.
2. Consider which supplements you take while fasting. I believe certain supplements are important, including vitamins, electrolytes, trace minerals, nutritional yeast, and omega-3 fatty acids. A green drink without fiber, such as wheatgrass juice powder, is fine. You may want to avoid protein powders and branched-chain amino acids. Bone broth or MCT oil may work for some people, but not everyone.
3. Don’t eat unless you’re hungry. If you’ve reached your fasting goal but aren’t hungry and feel able to continue, you can go a little longer. Just don’t push it to the point that you feel weak, tired, irritable, or dizzy.
4. Break longer fasts slowly. The longer the fast, the more important it is to refeed gradually. If you fast for 48 hours or longer, start with a small amount of food. Then wait before gradually eating more.
5. How long you can fast may offer an indication of insulin resistance. If fasting feels easy, your insulin resistance may be much better. If you can’t fast for very long, you may still have insulin resistance. Give it more time and keep working at it.
6. Pair intermittent fasting with healthy keto. I believe you should always do healthy keto with intermittent fasting. A healthy keto diet may help keep insulin low when you eat and may provide a wide range of health benefits. A high-carb diet could minimize the effects of intermittent fasting.
7. Consider periodic prolonged fasting. Longer fasts may provide additional benefits. Regular intermittent fasting may offer three potential benefits: weight loss, cognitive benefits, and mood benefits. Periodic prolonged fasting could potentially support the brain and immune system, as well as provide anti-aging benefits.
