🩺Nurses Week: May 6-12💊
National Nurses Week (during Nurses Month) begins today, and as we prepare to celebrate this week alongside National Skilled Nursing Care Week, we’d like to share a few words from Chief Clinical Officer, Karen McDonald 💙💚
“Today, May 6, 2022 marks International Nurses Day. The theme this year is “Nurses are the backbone of medical care.” Without you, our nursing staff, our communities would not function. Skilled *Nursing* Facilities need…NURSES!! Families and residents look to you, and your ability to navigate the daily challenges of caring for residents and their lives is the backbone of care. My hat is off to you, my sisters and brothers in nursing. Happy Nurses Day!”

We're continuing our celebration of our outstanding social workers during Social Work Month! Today, we're spotlighting two social workers: Danyele Putmon, Social Services Director at Meadowbrook, and Michelle Gabbert, Director of Social Services at Edwardsville. They gave us insight into their experiences in social work, and we're grateful for the opportunity to share a bit about these two individuals with you today.
Q: What is it about your job that keeps you coming back on days that are more difficult than others?
Danyele: I love what I do. I know my residents depend on me to help them through day to day issues. If I'm not here to support them it can be even more difficult for them.
Michelle: I am passionate about mental health and I enjoy advocating for our residents. My team is also AMAZING and support me through the rough days!
Q: What do you wish other people knew about social work?
Danyele: I wish people would know that Social Workers work day and night like nurses. As Social Workers we do become burnt out and overwhelmed.
Q: The theme for 2022’s Social Work Month is “The Time is Right for Social Work.” What does that mean to you?
Michelle: This year I am focused on trying to advocate for mental health reform at the state level by meeting with State Senators and State Representatives to ensure that our residents have a voice when new laws are being made.
Q: What did you want to do for a career when you were a kid?
Danyele: When I was kid I really wanted to be a teacher.
Michelle: I have wanted to work in mental health since I was 12, but thought that I would be a middle school counselor.

At the start of this month, we introduced our newest benefit, available to all Full-Time Mission employees: Everyday Benefits! We've learned how to better navigate the shifting nature of COVID-19 and the regulations that come with it. We've made our exemplary clinical programming even more robust. We've found innovative ways to bring highly skilled new staff into our communities. We've grown into new states, bringing in new communities to the Mission family as it's made sense for us as a company.
