Good morning! Do you have a nature-lover in your life? Here’s a fantastic gift idea! These hats are made by my friend’s husband. He picked up crocheting last year and WHAM—artistic streak was totally unlocked in him! I love that these are man-made.

Across the Prairie & Friends: Native Plants & More can ship these gorgeous, one-of-a-kind hats. Perfect holiday gifts!

I’ve been putting Luffa slime on my face, and it feels so nice!😊

Did you know that the mucilage in Luffa has traditionally been used to gently wash, nourish and detoxify skin, especially red, irritated, ā€œhotā€ skin conditions (acne, sunburn, etc.)? I’ve been peeling lots of Luffa lately and part of peeling green luffa is all of the beautiful slime, or mucilage that covers the green fruit.

I’m dealing with some skin issues right now, so I’ve been giving myself a slime facemask daily lately. I can really feel a difference on my face.

Maybe I’ll get a good pic or video of the mucilage later today, but here’s a photo showing the suds the luffa slime makes. Those suds are a result of the saponins, and a huge hint that this fruit cleanses.

Nature is so cool!!!

This Common Eastern Bumble Bee was super busy hunting pollen on our Tartian Aster. I just love the color combo with the yellow and purple and background of the aster and the turquoise background. This lady’s wings were a bit ragged, but oh so dainty and beautiful as well.

Happy Monday, friends. We’re in for a gorgeous weather week here in NE OK—maybe the best week we’ll have until the real cold sets in. Enjoy every minute of it!

Luffa Gourds are my dogs’ favorite snacks and chews right now. They all line up to get their freshly peeled green luffa skin when I’m outside peeling them. The immature gourds and gourd skin are super healthy. The mucilage is the superstar. We also give them discolored mature luffa sponges. They make great dental chews for dogs.

Yesterday our family came together to make peanut and pecan brittle from our family’s sixth generation recipe. We keep the ā€œbrittleā€ in Peanut Brittle. None of these thick round discs (no shade to the thick round disk people). We pull piping hot candy as thinly as possible.

One of the traditions the kids especially enjoy is finding shapes in the brittle pieces! Here are some of our best shapes. How would you describe them? I’ll put our choices under each photo.

P.S. Our old fashioned peanut and pecan brittles, sold in pint and quart mason jars with festive ribbons, will be available from our homestead and Across the Prairie & Friends: Native Plants & More beginning November 1st. They make fantastic stocking stuffers and hostess gifts.

I wish I had a free source for pine mulch! My bestie has pine needles as her mulch and they look spectacular (and don’t acidify the soil!)!

Well I never!

Mr. Bee and I were pulling down a massive morning glory that never bloomed when we came across this beauty. At first I thought its head was a separate bug crawling on the worm. šŸ˜‚šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

This cutie is in fact the caterpillar for a Silver-Spotted Skipper. It’s just so gorgeous, with its almost purple head, chartreuse body, orange/red legs, and stunning darker green/blue lines along the body. It was fun to watch it for a bit before returning it a scrumptious leaf.

Evidently, Skippers are cute their entire lifecycle!

This might be my new favorite caterpillar. What caterpillar have you come across that you think is the coolest looking or most beautiful?

Cowpen Daisies and Monarchs Butterflies. What a beautiful October duo.

Yesterday there were four adult Monarchs at the same time on one patch of Cowpens we let grow in the middle of our front yard. And that was just one (of about six) of the patches around our acre. I would have loved to know how many more Monarchs were flitting around other spots on our property at the same time.

The Creator is so good to bless us with these gifts.

Posting a video of the four Monarchs later this morning.

So very thankful for the abundance of Monarch Butterflies we’ve hosted this year. Our last caterpillars should be tucking into chrysalis’s, and soon the fall Migration will be over for our area. We have seen more Monarchs than any other type of butterfly on our property this season, amazingly. šŸ¦‹

When it comes to adults, we see more Monarchs on Cowpen Daisies than any other flower combined. It’s like they are drawn right in by those bright yellow orbs.🌼 I know I am like the Cowpen Daisy evangelist, but they are so hard-working all season long. I’m just showing the butterflies here but they were also covered in bees. šŸ

Do you have Cowpen Daisies? Do you find them to be super hard workers in your garden as well?
