We can't believe there has to be a 'designated' day for this, but of course, there is: today is national I LOVE HORSES DAY!

Here at Rainbow, we believe horses are a gift every day, but did you know that the phrase "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" is actually a reminder to be grateful for the gifts, opportunities, or kind gestures that come our way?

The phrase comes from inspecting a horse's teeth to determine its health and value: If the horse was a gift, such an inspection would be considered an insult!

Today we're taking you BEHIND THE BARN DOOR to tell you a little more about one of the many faces of Rainbow: Maddie Gierber!

Maddie has been part of the Rainbow family for as long as we can remember! She joined as a volunteer in 2013 when she was just 15 years old and has risen to the position of Program Director with responsibility for our lesson program, student and staff development, and mentoring of trainee instructors. Oh, and she also still teaches therapeutic riding nearly every day!

Maddie was inspired to join Rainbow by her desire to help people through the healing power of horses, given her long time love of our four legged friends.

She qualified as a CTRI in 2020, mentored by our previous Program Director Mary Vardi, and is now responsible for training our up and coming instructors as part of our newly created mentorship program.

Maddie’s passion for words (she has a degree in communications with a focus on journalism from GMU) spilled over into her role at Rainbow when two years ago she introduced the popular Bentley’s Books reading program. And her love of all things equine has her teaching and riding her Appendix Quarter horse, James, in her ’spare’ time. She is usually joined at Rainbow by her two therapy dogs in training, Bear and Moose.
