So much increasing infection, what's a close-contact business to do?

Keep pushing on - intelligently. I endeavor to take precautions in my business. Yes I have been in operation again since soon after we were able to reopen, but it has been with precaution. I attempt to be as careful as I can manage, and in my business that means making the experience to be something where clients don't need to touch much of anything. Then it comes down to wearing a mask, absolutely necessary, and the safest means for me to operate for everyone involved.

My greatest wish at this time is that everyone else would take all precautions as well. This would not only do the most good for all of us; which is obvious, it would help in getting our infection numbers back under control. That would mean that we would be able to move about more freely than with the direction that we are headed. It also would mean that all businesses; including my own, would be more likely to remain open. Thus helping to keep our economy ticking over. Maybe slowly, but not stalled.

There is ample positive evidence from other countries that have followed this method. Their economy slowed, but they have remained open and operational, as their citizens complied with safety mandates - for the good of all citizens. If you just can't believe in this thought process, get your head on straight! This situation that we are in is not about any one of us. It is a massive demonstration of: what each of us does, affects everyone else. I want to work.

I am regularly reminded of my belief that my parents and grandparents, along with their generations, would look at us now and shake their heads in disbelief. Whatever their political persuasion; they weathered WWI, the Spanish flu, the great depression & WWII. I'm not aware of there being the reaction then that we have now. If there were, I wonder if we would be where we are?

I have finally loaded a few pictures of my newish digs (office) located in Logans Landing. It's becoming ever more of a comfortable; communal place, and the heavenly scents wafting from Homes Remedy Food Company as you approach my door are terrific! I have a hard time keeping the dogs in the office. (especially Rogan)

It must be winter. (or very near) Here I am finally getting back to actually make postings on my business page. This is the time of year when there seems to be more ability to let people know what is going on with the business.

For those that are not aware; I am in a new location. It's been a while; as I opened up the new spot on May 1 this year. After 7 months I have to say that all is going very well in my Logans' Landing space. I think I'll stick around for a while.

Now I have a view over the Boardman river and the lake right next door. Also looking forward to the completion of the west side of the TART loop. That'll make for more variety in walks with Fergus and Rogan.

Also very nice is the fact that I have an appropriately sized space for my operation and it's actually warm! I have control over the heating, which certainly makes a difference for the environment in what I do.

You'll have to check out the west side of the river, happily it's on the rebound. I'm in the north building where my neighbors are:
Homes Remedy Food Company (rave reviews!)
Lakeside Bridal
Fusion Massage
Renn studio
Foxy salon
Soon to come: Aflac office

Have you faced traffic today?

Sorry, but I just have to do this. A major peeve for me is when I see someone running or walking with the direction of traffic, while in / beside the lane of traffic.

When I was coaching I would insist that the runners on my teams face traffic for safety. If you wouldn't do this simple thing, you couldn't be on the team. The reason is purely for safety and it's even more pertinent today!

Drivers have ever more opportunity for distraction, with touch screens that often require quite a lot of attention to accomplish the desired task. Then there's cel calls and texting. I used to be concerned about someone who drops something like the CD, or is a distracted parent in the moment. It doesn't take much, and a little swerve by a car coming up behind you - that you do not see, and it's done. You're down.

Facing the direction of traffic is easy, simple, and smart. Giving yourself at least a chance to dodge an oncoming car; because you see it, is a good idea.

If this changes anything for you, then good, I hope to see you out on the roadways happily moving along for years to come. Then spread the word. We all know that a driver can't see perfectly behind the windshield. Don't assume that they do. Let's not assume that others are watching out for our every move. We all need to assume responsibility for ourselves. Right or wrong, a car is bigger.

Have fun out there!

Here is a recurring theme in my work:
It is fairly common that a person will come in with an issue that will appear to be very complex. Looking at the list of symptoms, it certainly is. It's very easy to listen to a list of pains and problems and wonder what could ever do all of this? Over the years I've learned through a whole lot of experience that when it appears overwhelming and possibly too much to be able to correct. -That's when it's time to look at breaking it down into the individual problems that are presented all in one as "layers".
Sometimes each problem can be identified and approached accordingly. Other times I have to wing it, and begin with my best educated guess, waiting for the issues to unfold as I work through them.
The marvelous little mysteries in what I do I suppose. I've had a fine example this last week. Where the neck / shoulder / torso / hip pain; all one sided, were overwhelming. Once we began unraveling tension and finding / beginning to resolve myofascial adhesions, relief became obvious in areas that had not even been approached. All making for a very freeing session.

It's always great to send someone out the door feeling far better than when they came in!

Well it's mid February as I write this. I want to take a moment to encourage anyone who sees this posting to consider making time for added flexibility effort in your day someplace.
Deep in the winter months and even when there is now promise of spring to come, we need to take time for managing our bodies. This is a time when the cold and maybe even slips and falls take their tolls. We gradually tighten up, then when the weather breaks we rush out there, warmed but tight, and take risk.
If time is put into working on flexibility now through stretching or maybe yoga, or better yet both, we can help ourselves be prepared for warmer weather activity as well as to reduce the likelihood of injury due to healthy muscular response.
So if you're not highly motivated to go out as it's still in the 20's; consider staying in and making the effort to increase your flexibility, however you approach it.
Balance the body! Enjoy outside and in as the sun begins to return!

So what's an active person to do when the weather does this roller coaster weather change? Roll with it is what I say! If it's lousy weather on the cross country ski trails, so soft that it'll damage them, then the roads must be clear for running. The opposite applies as well; snowy / slick roads usually means great conditions on the trails for skiing or fat biking.

Speaking of; this old runner has found fat biking to provide another activity for winter. An enjoyable way to get out there and be in nature and see people when my legs clearly state "you're not doing that" when I even think of going out for a run in slick conditions. Even xc skiing has become an issue with aggravating old injuries, and I've had to limit what I try to do. It's frustrating, but getting on the bike offers a way to get something done. Then there's more to it as well.. - When I finish a simple ride; having spent an hour and a quarter, maybe more, I feel as though I haven't done enough, perhaps I should do more. Experience has finally kicked in, maybe it could even be considered wisdom. When I get home and climb a staircase, my legs, especially my quads; tell me I did just fine with that amount, thank you.

If you just have to fight the battle of the weather and conditions, pushing through to get your mileage in winter running, then consider reading a couple of my older posts about putting screws in a pair of older shoes. It's superior for running in the slick, icy and hardpack conditions. Then if you stay upright, you'll be less apt to have a need to come visit my office.

Yeah, even the running on snowshoes loses appeal and usefulness without enough snow. Not much fun to do that without adequate cushion. So maybe this is becoming a runners winter? Happens sometimes around here. When you do go out to get after it, - please dress appropriately. Temperature-wise as well was in clothing that allows you to be seen. Remember; it's always darker looking through a windshield than it appears to us out in the open air. Drivers just cannot see you as well as we might often expect. Plain black is not a good look in winter. Then; as I always tout: RUN FACING TRAFFIC ! Whaddya thinkin' anyway?

Here's a new-ish posting on my blog: , under - Down the Garden Path. It's referring to flexibility; the need for it and a few tips on how to achieve it. Also use the rest and recovery time prior to an Autumn big event to work on improving your flexibility. It will all make for a much better result going into fall sporting events. (stretching, yoga, etc)

Here's another new addition to "the team": For those who haven't been in lately, we added a new Airedale puppy to the fold the end of September. His name is Fergus and he has acclimated to the business environment very well. At six months old he's not the cute little pup that he was of course, yet his great little character shines through as always, even as he nears his teen-time.
Riley is still doing very well and in the last month especially these two have become best friends. He's taught the pup many good things already, now he's beginning on all of those other things.
Aside from dogs and the learning going on there, there's ever more learning happening within Zemper Restorative Therapy. It's interesting to look back at how I used to operate with clients and to compare that to what the experience is now. More comfortable might be a phrase used. With the growth in understanding, it's fascinating to apply improvements in treatment for the vast variety of issues that people come in for.
I've always strived to clear up injuries and problems as quickly as I possibly can. Sometimes I'm a little surprised at how quickly these things can go away with the right treatment and the proper care at home. Even an increased understanding of stretching and flexibility is paying benefits. So don't forget that this time of year, when the cold sets in and tends to make us tight and everything may ache more. It's a good time to work on flexibility for comfort as well as prevention.
Go play in the snow!

(Below is a pic of Fergus at 3 months, the day we brought him home)
