A buffalo hump on its own is not harmful. However, poor posture and some underlying health conditions can cause one to form.

A buffalo hump (medically known as a dorsocervical fat pad) occurs when you develop a buildup of fat in between the shoulder blades at the back of the neck. The excess fat can form a fatty tissue protrusion that mimics the appearance of a hump. A buffalo hump on its own is not harmful, and having it does not ultimately mean you have a medical condition. Sometimes, even having poor posture can cause it. However, certain conditions like Cushing's syndrome, adrenal cancer, osteoporosis, and obesity can raise your risk of developing one ☝️.

Buffalo Hump Symptoms
The hallmark characteristic of a buffalo hump is a fatty lump behind the neck, in between the back of the shoulders. In most cases, this is actually the only symptom. However, conditions like Cushing's syndrome, adrenal cancer, obesity, or osteoporosis is causing the hump, can cause additional symptoms such as:

Causes
Several underlying conditions can cause a buffalo hump. The following are the most
common reasons:
• Poor posture: Leaning forward, keeping your head down (such as while looking at your phone), and not walking with your shoulders pushed back can weaken the muscles in your neck and upper back and cause a hump to develop. 15)
• Cushing's syndrome: This condition causes the overproduction of cortisol, a hormone that plays an important role in how the body responds to stress. The overproduction of this hormone sometimes triggers fat accumulation in the back of the neck. 2
• Adrenal cancer: The adrenal gland is the gland responsible for secreting cortisol. A cancerous tumor growing in this gland can cause it to overproduce cortisol, leading to the development of a buffalo hump.

Antiretroviral medications: Certain HIV medications, such as protease inhibitors, can cause side effects like a buffalo hump.
[3]
• Glucocorticoids: Long-term use of glucocorticoid medications like Rayos (prednisone) and Hydrocort
(hydrocortisone) can cause a buffalo hump, as these medications act like cortisol and therefore induce similar effects as high cortisol levels. 7
• Obesity: People who live with obesity have a higher risk of developing a buffalo hump due to excess fat deposits in the neck region. 81
• Lipodystrophy * : This refers to a group of medical conditions characterized by abnormal fat distribution in the body. 9!
People with this condition often lack fat tissue in all or some parts of the body but have excess fat accumulation in other body parts.

Madelung disease (multiple symmetrical lipomatosis): This condition is a rare metabolic disorder that causes an unusual build-up of fat deposits in body parts like the trunk, neck, shoulders, thighs, and upper arms. It is often associated with excessive alcohol use.

Diagnosis
Healthcare providers can diagnose a buffalo hump by physically or visually examining you.
However, they may need to run further tests to determine the underlying cause of the hump.
This may include taking your medical and family history and ordering exams that check cortisol level, bone density, and strength, such as: 15]
• Imaging tests like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, computed tomography_(C)T scans, and X-rays
• Blood tests
• Urine tests
• Bone density tests

Because certain medications can also raise the risk of developing a buffalo hump, you can expect your healthcare provider to ask you about your medication use and other lifestyle habits. 15J
How To Get Rid of a Buffalo
Hump
There's no one-size-fits-all treatment for a buffalo hump. Your healthcare team's approach to resolving a hump will often depend on the cause of your symptoms. Your exact treatment plan may also combine multiple treatment options together to see results. Treatment approaches to help reduce the appearance of a buffalo hump include the following: 12, 13]
• Use a posture corrector and sitting or walking straight to fix posture
• Focus on nutritious foods to help your body loose weight if needed.
• Start an exercise regimen to manage obesity.
• Stop or adjust the dosage of any medications that may be causing your hump.

Get cosmetic surgery to remove the excess fat deposit on the neck
• Remove tumors from the back of the neck or the adrenal gland, which may cause high cortisol levels
• Manage stress to reduce high cortisol levels, which can influence a buffalo hump to develop.

Prevention
There is no surefire way to prevent a buffalo hump, but incorporating the following strategies may reduce your risk of developing one ☝️.

• Exercise regularly to maintain strong bones
• Eat a nutritious diet, focusing on plant foods like fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains
• Limit the use of glucocorticoid medications
Complications
A buffalo hump itself doesn't typically pose a danger to your health. However, in some people, the fat accumulation can be so excessive that it restricts neck or upper back movement. This can affect your ability to move, complete daily tasks, and feel more self-conscious about your body image. 12)
However, if the underlying medical causes of a buffalo hump, like Madelung disease and Cushing's syndrome, are not treated in a timely manner, they may lead to complications like hypertension (high blood pressure), depression, sleep apnea (a chronic breathing disorder that causes your breathing to stop and restart repeatedly while you sleep), and difficulty swallowing or speaking.

That said, if you develop a buffalo hump, seeing a healthcare provider about the hump is important, as they can offer treatment options to help reduce the appearance and treat underlying conditions.

LIVING WITH A BUFFALO HUMP
The development of buffalo hump is often not within your control, and it can be challenging to live with this fat accumulation behind your neck, as it can limit mobility. It is best to speak to a healthcare provider as soon as you notice the hump, especially to learn if an underlying health condition is causing your symptoms.
They can provide an accurate diagnosis and offer timely treatment options.
Some people who develop a buffalo hump can also sometimes experience changes in their self-perception, body image, and emotional well-being. However you feel is normal and valid—and it's also okay to reach out to a mental healthcare provider if you need support. Online support groups for conditions like Cushing's syndrome can also help you feel cared for and understood by other people living with the condition.

Angina Pectoris

⭕️Angina pectoris is defined as chest pain brought on by myocardial ischemia (decreased blood flow to the heart muscle). Any factor that increases oxygen demand or decreases oxygen supply to cardiac muscle may cause angina, including the following:
o Physical exertion (eg, exercise, s*xual activity): Increases heart rate and reduces diastole (time of maximum blood flow to the myocardium)
o Intense emotion (eg, anxiety, fear): Initiates the sympathetic nervous system and increases cardiac workload
o Temperature extremes: Usually cold exposure and hypothermia (vasoconstriction); occasionally hyperthermia (vasodilation
and blood pooling)
o To***co use and second-hand smoke inhalation: Replaces oxygen with carbon monoxide; ni****ne causes vasoconstriction
and catecholamine release
o Stimulants (eg, co***ne, amphetamines): Increase heart rate and cause vasoconstriction
o Coronary artery narrowing (eg, atherosclerosis, coronary artery spasm): Decreases blood flow to myocardium

HEARING AID
⭕️Proper use and care of hearing aids is essential to the success of hearing aid therapy and is associated with improved outcomes. Proper hearing aid use and care include:
o Minimize distracting sounds (eg, television, radio) during conversation to enhance effectiveness
o Turn the volume off prior to insertion, then gradually turn up the volume to a comfortable level

o To adjust to the new hearing aids, initially wear them for a short time (eg, 20 minutes) and gradually increase length of
wear time.
o Do not wear the hearing aids when using hair dryers or heat lamps.
o Regularly check that the battery compartment is clean, the batteries are inserted correctly, and the compartment is shut before insertion
o Remove the battery (if possible) at night and when the aid is not in use to extend battery life.
⭕️Each aid must be cleaned with a soft cloth. Hearing aids should not be immersed in water, as this can damage the electrical components.
⭕️Store hearing aids in a safe, dry place when not in use. This will help prevent the hearing aids from becoming lost or
damaged.

6 TIPS TO IMPROVE EGG QUALITY AND BOOST FERTILITY!!!

Women often ask if there is a natural or 'at home remedy' for boosting egg quality and improving fertility and the changes of pregnancy.

Here are some things you can do to ensure that your eggs are the best that can be when preparing for conception.

1. Stay Away from Ci******es.

Smoking permanently speeds up egg loss in the ovaries. The chemicals in ci******es mutate the DNA in a woman's egg cells, making some of the eggs unsuitable for conception. Women are born with all the eggs they will ever have, and the number of eggs reduces with age, so it is best to keep eggs healthy and free of unnecessary chemicals.

2. Manage Stress.

Stress can produce hormones such as cortisol and prolactin that can interfere or halt ovulation, which also hinders egg production. Stress-reducing activities such as yoga, meditation, exercise or a warm bath can help keep stress and frustration at bay.

3. Eat Healthy.

Healthy foods improve overall health, this includes helping your eggs stay healthy and high quality, as well as improve overall fertility.

Eat plenty of leafy greens, whole grains such as rice, oats, wheat etc lean meats like pork, nuts like almond, cashew and other nuts, fresh vegetables, and fruits.

Stay away from trans fats like fries, mozzarella cheese etc, refined carbs, processed foods or meats, and excessive salt and sugar.

4. Achieve a Normal BMI (body mass index).

Obesity has been linked to reduced fertility and decreased egg quality due to alterations of mitochondrial function and increased oxidative stress. Being overweight can also alter hormonal balance, disrupting ovulation.

A body mass index (BMI) between 18.5-24.9 is recommended to achieve pregnancy. To give you an idea of what that looks like, a woman that is 5’6” falls within a normal BMI with a weight range of 115-154 lbs.

5. Boost Blood Flow.

Good egg health is aided by oxygen-rich blood flow to the ovaries. Blood flow in the body can quickly decrease from dehydration, so aim to drink 64 oz. of water each day.

Yoga is a healthy and relaxing way to improve blood flow, with poses such as the lotus pose, child’s pose, reclining hero and seated forward bend offering a specific fertility benefit.

6. Invest in Supplements.

No need to break the bank on vitamins, but there are three low-cost options that can help with egg health:
Coenzyme Q10, melatonin and fish oil.

CoQ10 can boost mitochondrial function as well as antioxidants, improving the quality of eggs (200 mg, 3x daily);

Melatonin can boost antioxidants, encourage ovarian function and aid in sleep (3mg each evening);

and fish oil (EPA/DHA) can help produce higher quality eggs and help reproductive function in advanced maternal age (1200-1500mg EPA + DHA daily, do not exceed 3000 mg/day).

Ensure you seek the advise of your health provider before taking supplements.

Adenomyosis:

Adenomyosis is a medical condition that has become a growing concern for some women who are trying to get pregnant. This condition often starts to affect female health after age 35.

Adenomyosis Explained
Adenomyosis occurs when endometrial tissue begins to grow into the muscle layers of your uterus. Normally, your endometrial tissue lines your uterus. But if you have adenomyosis, the tissue begins to implant itself into your uterine muscle.

About 1 in 100 women will have adenomyosis in their lifetime. Women in their 30s and 40s who have had one or more children are most at risk for adenomyosis and infertility.

Adenomyosis Symptoms
Here is a list of common adenomyosis symptoms. If these symptoms are happening to you, and you are having trouble getting pregnant, talk to your doctor.

Painful cramping and heavy bleeding during your period
Passing blood clots during menstruation
Unexplained bleeding between your periods
Pain during s*x, especially around the time of your period
Swelling or tenderness in your lower belly
Also, if you have adenomyosis, your uterus may become two or three times larger than normal. In addition, adenomyosis can cause problems with infertility.

Testing and Treatment for Adenomyosis and Infertility
Before you can begin adenomyosis infertility treatment, your doctor will want to run a number of tests, including:

Blood work
A pelvic exam and ultrasound
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans
If your adenomyosis symptoms are mild, and your doctor approves, you may just try pain relief medication to reduce any discomfort. However, if you are unable to achieve pregnancy after six months, talk with a fertility specialist. He or she may recommend adenomyosis hormonal and surgical treatments.

Adenomyosis Fertility Treatments
Make an appointment with a fertility specialist if you have adenomyosis and infertility. The following treatments may help reduce your adenomyosis symptoms, increasing your chances of becoming pregnant in the future:

Birth control pills
Intrauterine devices (IUD)
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists
Some women are able to conceive within a few months after completing these hormonal therapies. If these treatments don’t help, your doctor may recommend surgery to help you get pregnant.

See a specialist about adenomyosis

Adenomyosis and Endometriosis
Adenomyosis may sound similar to other reproductive health conditions like endometriosis and uterine fibroids. Here is how they are different: Endometriosis occurs when endometrial tissue spreads outside of the uterus to other areas of the body.

In those cases, the tissue can invade the pelvic region, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and other areas. Alternatively, fibroids are benign growths that appear in the uterus. Remember, adenomyosis is the condition where the tissue grows into the uterine muscle, sometimes causing uncomfortable symptoms and infertility.

Questions for Your Doctor About Adenomyosis
Talk openly with your doctor if you are concerned about adenomyosis and infertility. Here are some questions you can ask your doctor:

Will medication or surgical treatments for adenomyosis help me get pregnant?
What are the side effects, risks and benefits of the different adenomyosis fertility treatments?
Can I start with just medication treatment? How successful might that be?

Help is Available for Adenomyosis
If you have adenomyosis, medical and surgical treatment options may help to restore your fertility. If you are done having children, a hysterectomy often cures adenomyosis. And, if left untreated, adenomyosis often goes away when you reach menopause.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐍'𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘

While a couple will always look upon the woman while considering pregnancy, male fertility is also key.

It is reckoned while looking at the biological clock for men, the best age to have children is from late 20s and early 30s.

While it is possible for older men to father children, it's paramount to note that as a man get older, the s***m quality begins to reduce.

This is because the older a man is the more there is likelihood of genetic mutations that damage the s***m DNA. This lowers conception chances.

Studies have proven that father's with advanced age are more likely to have children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

A man Fertility Parameters according to WHO lies in;

S***m Count
S***m morphology (shape
S***m Motility (movement)

Starting around the age of 40 and above, the parameters begin to worsen.

Myocardial Infarction

Clients with myocardial infarction (MI) are at risk for life-threatening dysrhythmias (eg, heart block, ventricular
tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation) both during the MI and following reperfusion therapy (eg, coronary artery stenting).
Female, elderly, and diabetic clients tend to present with atypical symptoms of myocardial infarction (MI), such as
diaphoresis, nausea, fatigue, or dyspnea, but may not always experience chest discomfort.
Pain may be absent or atypical or may radiate to unusual locations (eg, jaw, back).
Some clients may report pain as "indigestion" (epigastric burning or gas). The nurse should obtain a 12-lead
electrocardiogram (ECG) on any client with atypical MI symptoms to assess for evidence of ischemia, injury, or
infarction.
is life-threatening and requires rapid coronary intervention.
Myocardial ischemia damages cardiac muscle cells, causing electrical irritability (eg, premature ventricular
contractions) that can be exacerbated by electrolyte imbalances (eg, hypokalemia).
Hypokalemia hyperpolarizes cardiac electrical conduction pathways, increasing the risk for dysrhythmias. Therefore,
prompt potassium replacement is the priority in these clients
ACE inhibitors (eg, captopril, enalapril, lisinopril) help reduce the risk of future MIs by reducing blood pressure and
cardiac workload and inhibiting ventricular remodeling. ACE inhibitors should be administered after MI; however, life-
threatening dysrhythmias pose a higher risk to the client
A large anterior wall MI can affect the pumping ability of the left ventricle, putting the client at risk for developing heart
failure and cardiogenic shock. The new development of pulmonary congestion on x-ray, auscultation of a new
S3 heart sound, crackles on auscultation of breath sounds, or jugular venous distension can signal heart failure and
should be reported immediately to the HCP.
Clients may experience nausea and vomiting during an MI resulting from stimulation of the vomiting center by severe
pain or from vasovagal reflexes initiated from the area of the infarction. This finding is not as high a priority as the
S3heart sound.
Dysrhythmias are a common complication after an MI. Occasional PVCs are not significant, but the nurse should
further assess the client's potassium level and assess the apical-radial pulse for the presence of a pulse deficit.
An increase in temperature following a MI is usually due to a systemic inflammatory process caused by myocardial cell death. The elevation may last as long as a week. This finding is not as significant as the S3 heart sound.

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
⭕️Alzheimer disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes reduced cognitive function (dementia) in older individuals (most commonly age >60).
⭕️Conversation becomes progressively more difficult, and the client experiences word-finding difficulty. The best way to obtain information and communicate is to use simple statements and questions
⭕️Facing the client allows the client to visualize the speaker's face and helps reduce distraction
⭕️Providing a quiet environment (eg, turning off the television, closing the door) removes competing or distracting
stimuli
⭕️Asking open-ended questions is a valuable communication technique for collecting information from most clients, but it
may confuse the client with AD. instead ask simple, direct questions.
⭕️AD results in a reduction in cognitive function. Speaking loudly does not improve comprehension and may increase
anxiety and confusion.

MOUTHWASH INGESTION
⭕️Many mouthwashes have an ethanol (alcohol) content ranging from the equivalent of wine to half the strength of hard liquor. Because children's bodies absorb alcohol quickly, the symptoms of alcohol poisoning can occur within 30 minutes or less after consumption.
⭕️Clinical indications include confusion, vomiting and seizures, difficulty breathing, flushed or pale skin, and coma secondary to low blood sugar.
⭕️The exact amount of alcohol that this child presumably ingested is unknown. It is most important to assess the child's condition (eg, behavior, mental status, physical signs and symptoms) to determine if immediate emergency measures (eg, calling 911, cardiorespiratory support or hospital ) are necessary or if the parent should be instructed to contact the poison control center
⭕️ It is the nurse's professional responsibility to provide instruction and guidance to the parent. Although caregivers should have the number of the poison control center readily available or hospital, referral might delay care and place the child at further risk of a negative outcome if the child is already deteriorating.
⭕️If the child's condition is stable, the parents should contact the center for further evaluation and instructions or take the child to the hospital.
⭕️Giving the child water or any other liquid will not change the amount of alcohol ingested. In addition, alcohol can impair swallowing, placing the child at risk for choking and aspiration.
⭕️ Parents should be advised not to perform any interventions before contacting the poison control center or hospital.

SLEEP HYGIENE
⭕️Sleep hygiene refers to a group of practices that promote regular, restful sleep. The clients who have trouble sleeping (insomnia) to maintain good sleep habits. A primary objective is reducing stimuli in the bedroom. Clients should be taught to avoid non–sleep-related activities (eg, reading, television, working) other than s*x in bed. Relaxed reading before bed is helpful for stimulating sleep but should occur in a different setting, not in bed
⭕️Initiate the following healthy sleep habits:
o Avoid caffeine, ni****ne, and alcohol within 4-6 hours of sleep
o Exercise daily but avoid exercise or strenuous activity within 4-6 hours of sleep o Avoid going to bed hungry or eating a heavy meal just before bed
o Practice relaxation techniques (eg, deep breathing) if stress is causing insomnia
⭕️It is best to avoid naps during the day, especially later in the day. Any naps taken should be short (20-30 min).
⭕️The client should keep the bedroom slightly cool, quiet, and dark for comfort.
⭕️As much as possible, the client should develop a consistent sleep-wake pattern (ie, same bedtime and wake time each
day) to obtain 7-8 hours of sleep nightly.
