October is a month to celebrate Residents’ Rights Month. This month focuses on the consumer voice and is to honor residents that reside in our communities and those who have received care at ASC. It is important to recognize this observance not only this month but each and every day. At American Senior Communities, we believe that caring for others means personally knowing and valuing each individual as a person. We believe that each resident deserves to be known, recognized, understood and cared for as much emotionally as they do physically.

“The world may look a little different right now, but one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to ending Alzheimer’s. This year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is everywhere — on every sidewalk, track and trail.”

These words can be found on the Alzheimer’s Association’s website and for American Senior Communities (ASC) who supports their mission, this includes parking lots.

Today, October 2nd, almost 50 American Senior Communities home office staff members along with the ASC Cavalry gathered today to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Association and walk to honor all those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease.

“As the largest provider of memory care, each day we see the devastating impact Alzheimer’s disease has on families. This disease slowly attacks nerve cells in the cortex of the brain, reducing a person’s ability to control emotions, recognize people, remember, move and think” says Melanie Perry, director of Memory Care for ASC.

“Why do we walk? We understand the important work the Alzheimer’s Association does and want to do our part to help raise money to fund community programs and research in hopes of one day discovering a cure. We walk to raise awareness and honor the residents and families we serve along with the more than 5 million Americans that are living with Alzheimer’s.” Perry explained.

ASC home office raised over $1,600 today, but that is just the start. Nearly 90 ASC communities across the state that are hosting similar events in the coming weeks to raise more. This year has been a particularly tough year for non for profits, including the Alzheimer’s Association and ASC asks for others to join them in this fight!
