Mojave Watershed Welcome to the Mojave River Watershed Group! What is MRWG? What is stormwater pollution? Why is stormwater education so important to High Desert residents?

MRWG is an organization dedicated to educating the High Desert community (the City of Hesperia, the City of Victorville, the Town of Apple Valley and other unincorporated areas of the County of San Bernardino) about stormwater pollution prevention. Stormwater pollution, resulting from urban runoff, is a serious issue and is the single biggest environmental threat to the quality of our rivers, lakes and other local waterways. It can have a detrimental effect on public health and harm the well-being of local wildlife. Stormwater pollution is unique in the High Desert due to its geographic make-up. Our watershed flows directly to the Mojave aqueduct which is the direct source of our drinking water. Protecting this precious resource for yourself and your family is vital to our High Desert community. The good news? Stormwater pollution is preventable. Through simple measures, we can reduce stormwater pollution and keep our communities clean. It is up to us to preserve the essence of the Mojave Desert. Learn more about us and how you can get involved at www.mojaveriver.org.

Don’t leave him hanging. 👻

This Halloween, keep candy wrappers and other litter off the ground and out of our storm drains. The only thing we want haunting the High Desert is Ghostface.

🕸️Like Sustainability Matters says, those spooky cobwebs might look cute on your porch, but they can be dangerous for wildlife.

Fake spiderwebs can trap birds and other small animals, and they all play a role in our High Desert ecosystem, which is home to the Mojave River watershed.

This Halloween, skip the synthetic webs and keep@the spooky vibes wildlife-friendly! 💚

Last month, Sam and Victor visited the Apple Valley Academy for Academic Excellence to kick off our second year of the Mojave River Watershed Group’s Stormwater Trooper Student Ambassador Program. Throughout the year, these incredible students will participate in more than 10 EnviroScape® demonstrations and a variety of event opportunities that promote watershed protection across the High Desert.

MRWG is grateful for each student's participation and for ' partnership. We look forward to watching these future Stormwater Troopers inspire environmental stewardship in their school and community this school year. 💧

Halloween is scary. Finding candy wrappers all over the neighborhood afterward? Scarier! 👻

Reuse what you can this Halloween. While you're out collecting the good stuff 🍬, keep an eye out for the little stuff too. Candy wrappers are easy to drop and easy to forget, but they’re still litter. Keep them in your bag until you find a trash can.

🍂 Fall is almost here, which means it’s a good time to get your yard ready for those rainy days ahead.
Take a few minutes to clear out leaves and debris, and check your gutters and downspouts to make sure nothing that could pollute our waterways is left outside.
