🚨 ResMed Astral 150 Ventilator Recall: What Healthcare Providers Need to Know

In June 2026, ResMed issued a medical device correction affecting certain Astral 100 and Astral 150 ventilators. The FDA subsequently classified the action as a Class I recall, its most serious recall classification.

The issue involves a potential internal component failure that may cause the ventilator to stop delivering therapy, creating a significant safety concern for patients who depend on ventilatory support.

What should healthcare organizations and equipment owners know?

🔹 Identify potentially affected equipment. Review model and serial numbers, service records, and any previous circuit-board replacements.

🔹 Verify corrective-action status. Contact ResMed or an authorized service provider to confirm whether a specific unit is affected and whether the required correction has been completed.

🔹 Review equipment documentation. Before purchasing, selling, or placing a used Astral 150 into service, verify its recall status and maintenance history.

🔹 Follow official safety guidance. Healthcare providers should follow ResMed's instructions and applicable FDA guidance. Patients should not discontinue ventilator use unless directed by their treating clinician.

Important: A ventilator's model, age, or serial number alone may not establish its current recall status, particularly if its circuit board has been replaced. Confirm the status of each device directly with ResMed.

At Outfront Medical, we understand the importance of equipment
history, maintenance documentation, and manufacturer safety communications when evaluating medical equipment.

Failure of an electrical component in certain Astral ventilators may cause an interruption or failure in therapy which may result in serious injury or death.

Understanding Preventive Maintenance for CareFusion/Vyaire LTV Ventilators

Preventive maintenance (PM) is an important part of keeping CareFusion/Vyaire LTV ventilators maintained and ready for service. Understanding the recommended maintenance intervals can help healthcare facilities plan service, manage budgets, and reduce unexpected equipment downtime.

The LTV 950, LTV 1000, LTV 1100, LTV 1150, and LTV 1200 ventilators have maintenance requirements that may be based on both elapsed time and operating hours.

Key maintenance intervals to know:

• 2-Year / 10,000-Hour PM: Routine preventive maintenance is generally scheduled at the applicable two-year or 10,000-hour interval.

• 6-Year PM: Depending on the unit’s operating hours, condition, and required performance testing, some ventilators may qualify for maintenance without immediate turbine replacement.

• 30,000-Hour PM: This milestone involves turbine manifold replacement as part of the applicable maintenance requirements.

What about service costs?

Budgeting for LTV ventilator maintenance can be challenging. Third-party service estimates and publicly listed maintenance kit prices provide useful reference points, but actual costs vary depending on the model, operating hours, parts required, labor, and service provider.

Before scheduling service, verify the unit’s model, serial number, operating hours, maintenance history, and applicable manufacturer requirements. Confirm current service procedures, parts availability, and pricing with an appropriate service provider.

At Outfront Medical, we understand the importance of making informed decisions about medical equipment maintenance, service, and lifecycle costs.

What Medical Equipment Do Long-Term Care Facilities Commonly Need?

Long-term care and skilled nursing facilities rely on a wide range of medical equipment to support their residents and staff. Depending on the services provided, that equipment can include:

• Infusion and syringe pumps

• CPAP and BiPAP equipment

• Ventilators

• Oxygen concentrators and other oxygen equipment

• Pulse oximeters and patient monitoring equipment

• Cough-assist devices

• Heated humidifiers

• Respiratory care equipment and accessories

When purchasing medical equipment, facilities should consider more than just the price. Equipment condition, preventive maintenance, battery life, operating hours, accessories, service history, and availability of replacement parts can all be important factors.

Refurbished equipment can also provide healthcare facilities with an opportunity to expand their equipment inventory while managing their budget.

We put together a new article covering the equipment commonly used in long-term care facilities and what buyers should consider when evaluating their options.

What Is a VOCSN Ventilator?

Most portable ventilators are designed primarily to provide mechanical ventilation. The VOCSN takes a different approach by
combining five respiratory functions into one integrated system:

🔹 V — Ventilation
Mechanical ventilation for invasive, non-invasive, and mouthpiece applications.

🔹 O — Oxygen
Integrated oxygen concentration to provide supplemental oxygen in applicable configurations.

🔹 C — Cough
Cough-assist therapy to help patients clear airway secretions.

🔹 S — Suction
Integrated suction to help remove airway secretions.

🔹 N — Nebulizer
Nebulizer functionality for aerosolized medication delivery.

That combination is what makes VOCSN unique. Instead of managing multiple separate respiratory devices, VOCSN can bring several therapies together in one portable platform.

But if you're considering a used or refurbished VOCSN, there's an important detail to understand: not every VOCSN is configured the same way.

The exact configuration, software version, operating hours, battery condition, preventive maintenance, and included accessories can all affect the equipment's capabilities and value.

We put together a detailed guide explaining the five functions of VOCSN, the different configurations, and what buyers should look for when purchasing a used unit.

Philips Trilogy 100 vs. Trilogy 200 vs. Trilogy Evo — What's the Difference?

If you're buying a refurbished or used portable ventilator, choosing between the Philips Trilogy 100, Trilogy 200, and Trilogy Evo isn't simply a matter of choosing the newest model.

Each ventilator has different capabilities, and the age of the equipment can also have a major impact on service, support, and overall value.

Some of the key differences include:

🔹 Trilogy 100 – An established portable ventilator platform with invasive and non-invasive ventilation capabilities, AVAPS, and a large installed base.

🔹 Trilogy 200 – Similar generation and core platform to the Trilogy 100, but with different configurations and capabilities that may make it a better fit for certain applications.

🔹 Trilogy Evo – A newer-generation platform with expanded ventilation capabilities, higher maximum inspiratory pressure, greater oxygen flexibility, newer connectivity, and a longer manufacturer support window.

But there's more to consider when purchasing a used Trilogy.

Operating hours, preventive maintenance, battery condition, recall status, accessories, software, and remaining manufacturer support can all affect the value of a ventilator.

An older Trilogy isn't necessarily a bad purchase—but it needs to be evaluated properly.

We put together a detailed comparison covering the Trilogy 100 vs. Trilogy 200 vs. Trilogy Evo, including what buyers should look for when purchasing used or refurbished equipment.

💰 How Much Is Your Used Infusion Pump Worth?

If your hospital, DME, healthcare facility, or organization has infusion pumps sitting in storage, you may be wondering what they’re actually worth on the secondary market.

The answer depends on much more than the brand name.

Factors that can significantly affect the value of a used infusion pump include:

• Make and model

• Software version

• Age and overall condition

• Service and maintenance history

• Operating hours and usage

• Accessories and included components

• Current demand for the model

• Whether the equipment is fully functional or being sold as-is

Two pumps that look nearly identical can have very different resale values depending on these factors.

At Outfront Medical, we buy used and surplus medical equipment from hospitals, healthcare facilities, DME companies, dealers, and other organizations nationwide.

We put together a guide explaining what goes into determining the value of a used infusion pump and what information you should have available when requesting an offer.
