The Johnson Center Functional Health & Longevity Using DNA testing, peptides, and hormones for health optimization and personalized medicine. You have one life … one body. Functional. Integrative.

Increasing both healthspan and lifespan with functional genomics, nutrition, and lifestyle. Genomics + Epigenetics +Cellular Health = Optimal Health

Health is not the absence of disease. Health is an optimal physiological state where there are no limitations. You are able to accomplish whatever you want to do both physically and mentally. Most people are unaware that their health is declining as cellular damage occurs long before you start having symptoms. Symptoms appear with continued oxidative stress, inflammation, and cellular dysfunction. Health Optimization is looking at health at a cellular level.

1.Genes - This is your DNA, your blueprint, that makes you completely different from everyone else and identifies your predispositions for certain diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer's, and Cancer.

2.Epigenetics - Epigenetics are lifestyle factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, toxin exposure, and stress that influence your genes.

3.Cellular Health - Cells must maintain balance for optimal health. We can measure your current state of health and by bloodwork, medical history, physical state, and other tests looking at your metabolome. Understanding all three can identify key health risks and help you avoid them. We provide our patients with a personalized wellness plan that is specific for each individual patient. Utilizing genomic testing as well as metabolomics and microbiome testing, we create an individualized wellness plan for each patient understanding their unique lifestyle and stage in life. What works for a 30-year-old is not optimal for someone in their 70's: nutritional needs change, exercise focus changes, motivation, and lifestyle changes. All this needs to be taken into account to live a long life mentally and physically optimal. Nutrition, genetics, aging, stress, lifestyle habits, toxins, and the environment can all increase your risk for disease and influence the hormones and brain chemicals that determine your physical and emotional health. We work with patients to prevent Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, autoimmune, and other chronic complex diseases. Why not choose healthcare that’s designed especially for you. Holistic

Why are more people developing cancer at younger ages?

The honest answer is that we don’t fully know. But a new study in Nature Medicine offers an important clue. Researchers analyzed more than 154,000 adults and found that more recently born generations tend to be biologically older than their chronological age. People whose biology had aged faster were more likely to develop early-onset cancer.

This doesn’t prove that accelerated aging causes cancer. But it suggests we may have been searching for a single culprit when the real story is cumulative. Poor sleep, metabolic dysfunction, chronic stress, diet, and environmental exposures may all be adding to the same biological burden.

The hopeful part is that much of what drives biological aging can be changed.

Health isn’t the goal. It’s what makes the rest of life possible.

Longevity medicine is very good at asking what we want to prevent. It rarely asks what we want to make possible: travel, creating something new, keeping up with grandchildren, or simply discovering what interests you once nobody needs anything from you.

The point isn’t to spend extra years trying not to die. It’s to use them.

What would you want your healthy years to make possible? Read more and share your answer in the comments 👇

“Why can’t I just get my vitamins from food?”

It’s one of the most common questions patients ask, and the honest answer is that sometimes you can, but not always.

Food should always come first. An orange gives you far more than vitamin C. It provides fiber, flavonoids, and hundreds of plant compounds working together that no tablet can copy. But eating well doesn’t guarantee your body gets everything it needs. Age, medications, digestion, genetics, and stress all affect what actually reaches your cells.

Even health-conscious people who eat well can run low on vitamin D, B12, magnesium, omega-3s, iodine, or choline. That doesn’t mean you should buy all six. It means you should find the gap before you try to fill it.

And if you’re drinking red w**e for the resveratrol, you’ll want to read this one. 🍷

Is more data about your body actually good for you?

Wearables, biological-age tests, full-body scans, and huge lab panels promise answers. Without a framework, though, they often produce more anxiety than clarity.

The problem isn’t too much data. It’s data without hierarchy. Good care means figuring out which findings are driving the rest and addressing those first.

New on the blog: why your next test matters less than what you do with the results. 👇

The problem with modern longevity testing isn’t simply that we measure too much. It’s that we often measure without knowing why—and then fail to decide which findings actually matter.

“Fine.” It may be the most dangerous word in medicine.

Elaine’s cholesterol was on target. She walked most mornings and quit smoking years ago. Her doctor was pleased. But she had spent three years caring for her mother with dementia, sleeping poorly, and watching her friendships fade. When anyone asked, she said fine. Then one evening her heart started racing and wouldn’t settle.

Your heart is listening to more than your lab results. Chronic stress, isolation, grief, and poor sleep send real signals through your nervous and immune systems, driving inflammation that can affect your arteries and heart rhythm. The good news is you can change these risks.

In this week’s article, Dr. Barbara Johnson explains how a hard life becomes a fragile heart, and what actually helps. 👇
