September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month
"Infant mortality is the death of an infant before their first birthday. NICHQ is committed to improving birth outcomes and ensuring every child reaches their optimal health." -National Institute for Children's Health Quality
THE FACTS
A baby's death is tragedy no family and no community should endure. Yet in Palm Beach County and across the country, Black babies are more likely to die before turning one than babies of any other race or ethnicity.
September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month
Sickle Cell Foundation of Palm Beach County & Treasure Coast, Inc. is a family-oriented, charitable, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping all people affected by the extremely serious health problem of sickle cell disease.
What is the sickle cell disease?
It’s a group of disorders that affect red blood cells, making them hard and sticky (and shaped like sickles), and preventing their movement, which, as a result, can lead to infections, organ damage, anemia and other problems.
The disease is inherited and affects 1 in 12 African-American. It’s most common in African-Americans, but is not limited to just that ethnic group. Our organization serves an area that’s home to more than 30,000 persons who are affected by the sickle cell gene.
We are just 3 weeks away from the Sickle Celebration Awareness Walk 2022.
Join us as we raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease and Cell-ebrate those who courageously face this disease on a daily basis. This year you have the option to walk/run a professionally timed 3k or 5k route.
Visit www.sicklecellpbc.org to register now as a team or individual for your chance to receive a swag bag full of cool items.
Can't walk or run and want to leave a donation? Donate on our website today!
