Orphaned animals lead to more rabies shots among residents - Buffalo News Live

"Then Mark got a text message at work from his wife, who said the cat was acting crazy and had bitten both his son and wife. The next day, the cat dove under their bed at 3 a.m. and Mark went to get her. The cat bit him on the wrist. Then she started charging at him and antagonizing the dogs. Mark carried a broom with him to defend himself.
The next day Mark called the Health Department. The cat died later that day and tested positive for rabies."

Lili Dobreva was cleaning out a rental house last month when her eyes fell on a black, furry shape lying in the driveway. It turned out to be a baby skunk the size of her hand. When Dobreva poked it with a piece of wood, it started moving its mouth and paws. “Honestly, it looked like a little stuffe...

Recently, I tested 2 dogs from 2 different households for a "kennel cough". One was positive for pneumovirus, the other one for parainfluenza.
The PCR test is so very helpful!

Six Tips on Caring for Older Dogs

I am calling on all veterinarians to consider what it means to help to strengthen the human-animal bond. Especially when you work with breeders, who put their life-long effort, love and money into their show dogs and cats. And if the condition you are treating may be ending their show or breeding career.
ASK YOURSELF- Did I leave no stone unturned? Did I consider all the potential causes and diagnostics? Did I offer them all test to be performed? Did I discuss THE OPTIONS?
LISTEN to your client. If they ask for test to be run, run it.
Do not simplify the things and close the book on the case.
Realize your decision has a wide spread influence not just on the current pet, but their relatives, the whole bloodline as well as on the clients themselves and that human-animal bond we wowed to strengthen.
