Happy National Silent E Day! 🤫🎶
It's the perfect day to share a peek inside a recent school-based session with one of our students and music therapists, Farren. Our song was "Magic E," which turns a reading rule into something students can sing and remember: the silent E at the end of a word makes the middle vowel say its name. (It's so sneaky! "Cap" becomes "cape," and "kit" becomes "kite.")
It might look like singing and playing guitar, and it is! Every song has a purpose, though. As board-certified music therapists, we use music to help students work toward the goals their educational team has set, from reading and communication to attention, social skills, and even math.
Why music? It's motivating, it's predictable, and it gives students many chances to practice a skill without it feeling like drill work.
