"Maybe they need a stronger consequence."

But if consequences keep getting stronger and the struggle keeps returning, it's time to look at what we're missing.

Is the task overwhelming? Is the environment overstimulating? Does the person have the skills and support to meet the expectation?

Consequences don't erase needs or override biology and neurology. Sustainable change requires understanding the struggle, adjusting support, and teaching a workable way to get needs met.

That means fewer behavioral barriers for you-and less stress for them.

You can replace a behavior. You can't punish away a need.

How do you mitigate “feelings” and emotions?
Learn NEW ways, neuroscience is your friend 🧠 you can’t think your way out, yet you CAN think your way through ❤️‍🩹

Therapy introduces a whole new vocabulary and if nobody explains what these words actually mean in real terms, it can feel like you’re learning about yourself in a language you don’t speak yet.

Knowing what attachment style means is one thing. Understanding that it’s the reason you go cold when someone gets close, or why you can’t stop checking your phone when someone you care about goes quiet, that’s a completely different level of understanding. That’s the part that actually changes something.

Same with window of tolerance. You can nod along when your therapist says it. But when you understand it means that space between completely losing it and going completely numb and that healing is about making that space wider so more of life fits inside it without tipping you over suddenly it means something personal.

That’s why knowing the language matters. Not to sound clinical. Not to be able to use the words in conversation. But because when you understand what’s actually being described, you stop feeling like something is wrong with you and start understanding what happened to you. And that shift from I am this way to I learned to be this way for very real reasons is where everything starts to open up.

➕ Follow for weekly content that makes the language of healing make sense for real people doing real work.

💙 This World Mental Health Day, let’s remind one another that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone. 🫂❤️‍🩹

Let’s send love to those who smile while silently struggling, those who have survived battles they never thought they would overcome, those grieving someone they wish were still here, and those slowly finding their way back to themselves. 🥹🤍

Let’s remember those who feel alone even when surrounded by people, those who are hurting but cannot find the words to explain their pain, and those who need help but are afraid to ask for it. 🫶

Behind every smile, there may be a story we know nothing about. A little kindness, a moment of understanding, or simply being there for someone can make more of a difference than we realize. 🌷✨

Today and every day, let’s choose compassion over judgment, understanding over assumptions, and love over silence.

💙 Your life matters. 💙 Your struggles matter. 💙 Your presence makes a difference.

And no matter how heavy life feels right now, you deserve love, support, and the chance to heal. ❤️‍🩹🕊️

What do healthy boundaries actually sound like? 🤍

Boundaries can feel uncomfortable when you’re used to keeping the peace, overexplaining yourself, or putting everyone else’s needs first.

Healthy boundaries sound like:
✨ “I’m not comfortable with that.”
✨ “I need some time before I respond.”
✨ “That doesn’t work for me.”
✨ “I’m willing to talk when we can do so respectfully.”
✨ “I need to take care of myself right now.”

Setting boundaries isn’t about controlling other people. It’s about communicating your needs, protecting your emotional well-being, and building healthier relationships.

DBT Skills: Module : Emotion Regulation.
Emotions are crucial in navigating everyday life.
"I need a drink after that"
"The day I've had.."
"She made me so angry"
"He had road rage .."
"It's like treading on eggshells coming home from
schoo/college/work''...

Emotional awareness is key to emotion regulation. Then not needing to change the way we feel with angeroutbursts, or unhealthy lifestyle choices..drink, drugs, feeding our feelings, overeating, spending, gambling, other forms of self harm.

We need the so called ' negative emotions'
as much as we need the feelgood 'positive emotions'.

If we had never experienced sadness we wouldn't know joy.
[ Hint /Suggestion : Watch the movie Inside Out and its sequel].
It isn't possible or realistic to be happy all of the time.

A useful goal might be inner calm, fewer mood swings

Many people come to therapy /DBT for help with anger, sadness, anger outbursts, low mood, volatile emotions, emotional vulnerability.
