CHRISTIANS’ COMMITMENT TO GOD VERSUS PARTY POLITICS
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment” (Mark 12:30.)
I vividly remember decades ago of being concerned about other people’s expectations towards me to vote for presidential candidates during election year and of my obligations to the United States of America especially where saluting the flag was concerned. I was in a commitment quandary way back then. But no more.
(I remember having to pledge allegiance to the flag during my early school years in the late 1950s to early 1960s. Thinking back I do not mind having given my allegiance to the United States of America because homos*xuality and transgenderism were forbidden “social ills” not tolerated by neither the government nor society in general. Pressure from that society at large kept it “closeted.”
Back in those days television programs did not even show actors playing married couples sleeping in the same bed; Hollywood pictured separate beds. There were no shows containing the use of profanity or depicting or suggesting homos*xuality or lesbianism.
Unlike today, our government was heavily pro-family and had pro-Christian values. No professed homos*xual or bis*xual could run for office with any expectation of winning. This offensive class was ostracized.
All that has changed. Our government now promotes homos*xuality and transgenderism and goes so far as to include such filth in public school academic schedules for children. The school system also promotes drag queen reading hours in libraries for youngsters all under the welcoming oversight of the government.
Because of this ungodly radical shift, I find that I cannot now pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States. It has rejected God’s holy values.)
My commitment to God was not then settled and I was not unmovably planted in the Word of God and in my obligation to Him as I now am. I was also deficient in Holy Ghost boldness. I had not then the attitude of the apostles when they exclaimed:
“…We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29.)
God is an especially hard taskmaster compared to the Egyptian taskmasters during the centuries of the children of Israel’s captivity. He requires complete and unquestioning obedience to His holy mandates. He says:
“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (Christian walk, lifestyle); 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15-16.)
James 2:10 plainly declares God’s expectations of His people. It reads:
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
This passage leaves no “wiggle room” for anyone. It is all or nothing.
Through ignorance, Black people have been deceived and taught to vote for the Democratic presidential candidate during election year.
(The public school system taught over the years that the Republican party advocated slavery which is a complete and bold-faced lie. The Democratic party was guilty of this.)
This is despite the qualifications of the candidate or lack thereof or of his moral compass. We have been indoctrinated into voting for the party rather than examining the candidate.
But are we as Christians obligated to vote during presidential election year regardless of the Democratic or Republican party’s platform or whether the candidate is a believer or not or whether he or she upholds God’s moral law? Or, as I once thought, should a Christian choose and vote for the “lesser” of the two unrighteous candidates?
How tightly should Christians hold a political candidate to God’s moral standard? Should he be expected to take a stand for all of God’s moral law or may we expect and accept adherence to a certain percentage? James 2:10 certainly eliminates that possibility.
What about this. Should Christians take an uncompromising stance and vote into office only a candidate who himself is a Christian? Should he or she be saved having believed and obeyed Acts 2:38?
Does God allow us to vote for morally good non-Christians? Or should we refuse to play any role in the presidential election if there is no Christian in any party? How far should we take our allegiance to take part in an election especially since Blacks have fought and died for the right to vote?
I have long since arrived at the conclusion that the answer to these questions is clear from a biblical perspective. 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 read:
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”
A Christian can be unequally yoked to a political party or to a candidate as well as to a non-Christian spouse. If the candidate is unsaved, the Bible forbids a believer from being “yoked” (united) to him/her. Light (believer) has no communion with darkness (non-believer.) We are admonished to separate ourselves (come out from among them) from the workers of iniquity.
Election year 2024 like election year 2020 is very contentious. Both candidates are unsaved and leave much to be desired as being worthy to be voted into office. It is a given that no candidate will be placed into office if he or she does not compromise or make certain concessions to special interest groups such as the LGBTQ community or the supposed women’s right to body autonomy lobby (right to abort a child.)
Any presidential candidate should be held by Christians to the standards set forth in Proverbs 6:16-19:
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
A LYING TONGUE
I take what any presidential candidate promises in his campaign with a grain of salt. He or she will say anything if it helps propel him into this nation’s highest office. In his 2008 election campaign for the presidency of the United States, Barak Obama deceived the American public when he stated that he opposed same s*x “marriage” for religious reasons.
Today the Democratic candidate for the presidency, Kamala Harris, has flip-flopped on several positions in a determined effort to become elected. She no longer supports a buy-back program for AR15s and similar guns; she has also “walked back” her previous position on fracking.
These revised positions on policy are not due to an honest change of mind but due to today’s political climate considering her run for the presidency. What the news media calls harmless walk backs is nothing less than out-and-out lying. But she is not unique in this race in lying to the public nor with respect to what historical candidates from both parties have always done.
Revelation 21:8 reads:
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, AND ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Psalm 101:7 says:
“He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.”
HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD
It is guaranteed that any candidate for this nation’s highest office who does not in some manner compromise on the issue of abortion will not be elected.
(Abortion is a euphemism for murder. It is an egregious assault on those who are not able to defend themselves. The sixth commandment says:
“Thou shalt not kill (murder)” (Exodus 20:13.))
EVERY presidential candidate makes a compromise in some manner in murdering children in the womb. Everyone will settle for some period beyond which a life should not be brutally and inhumanely forfeited. To take the Bible’s uncompromising stance is political su***de because the pro-choice lobby is that strong.
God does not judge unborn life on a sliding time scale. Life begins with conception. And the Creator does not look forgivingly on anyone who uses the word “fetus” for the unborn. This is just a tactic to deceive the mother and make murder seem humane and acceptable by dehumanizing the unborn child. Jeremiah 1:5 says:
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Like every past Democratic and Republican candidate, today’s Harris and Trump compromise on the pro-choice issue rather than take the only stance that pleases God – complete opposition to the murder of the unborn.
Kamala Harris has consistently rejected any effort to restrict access to abortion and champions reproductive health for the woman. Donald J. Trump has vacillated over the years on abortion policy despite referring to himself as the most pro-life president in history. His vice-presidential choice, J.D. Vance, has stated that he would veto a national abortion ban.
Trump has a history of violating God’s laws of marriage to one woman for life. He is now in his third marriage. This is unacceptable to me and should be also to all born-again, Christ-loving believers.
There is one class of people who have been consistently overlooked by presidential candidates over the years. This class is the poor. There is always mention of the rich and never-ending talk of the middle class. But what about the poor?
Jesus was concerned about the poor. Luke 6:20 reads:
“And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.”
Matthew 26:11 says:
“For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.”
Since this ignored class of citizens will remain in society, should politicians not be concerned about their welfare? Why do we not hear Trump and Harris express concern for the poor? The answer is that they do not care. All these politicians care about is being voted into the most powerful office on the planet and enriching themselves. President Biden has been proven, along with his drug-addicted, s*x depraved son, Hunter, of enriching themselves in pay-to-play schemes with countries such as China and Romania.
And let us not forgot the money-hungry Clintons during the midst of the devastating Haitian earthquake of 2010. Haitians have accused them or robbing them of billions of dollars of money donated for he cleanup and rebuilding. This earthquake affected 1.5 million people and left them destitute. At this point the Clintons agreed to provide much needed aid. Not surprisingly, this financial aid never reached the people, and they have not forgotten that.
There is a saying that “power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Money buys a lot of power and influences a lot of people. The unsaved due to their sin natures are prime targets to become corrupted by the overwhelming temptations of the office of the president of the United States.
Go on down the line of previous presidents and you will uncover corruption. And believe me when I tell you, today’s Trump and Harris are not immune! Look at Jeremiah 17:9:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
I believe that nothing less than a sold-out Christian should be considered for the office of the president of the United States. This means believing the complete truth of the Bible including Deuteronomy 6:4, Acts 2:38, marriage between a man and a woman for life, and the absolute condemnation of the so-called “alternate lifestyle” of the LGBTQ community. Not one jot or tittle of the commandments of God should escape any presidential candidate’s obedience.
I first neglected to take part in America’s democratic system of voting in favor of blatant degeneracy in election year 2020. I will continue it this year since America is dead set on placing society’s debauched agenda ahead of the holiness of God.
THE WRAP UP
Any Christian who votes for any corrupt politician, i.e. even one who violates just one moral law of God, are guilty of condoning lawlessness. Look at Jeremiah 23:14:
“I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they STRENTHEN ALSO THE HANDS OF EVILDOERS, that none doth return from his wickedness; they are all of them unto me as S***m, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.”
The ungodly presidential candidate’s guilt will be the unwary voter’s guilt if he becomes elected. Christians who vote for unsaved candidates gives his approval. No believer is obligated to take part in the so-called democratic process if that process or the individual is corrupt.
