Back pain is one of the most common things I treat—and also one of the conditions surrounded by the most fear and misinformation.
“I shouldn’t move if it hurts.”
“I can’t bend anymore.”
“My core must be weak.”
“My MRI is terrible.”
“I’m just getting older.”
I hear versions of these all the time.
But back pain is rarely that simple.
Your imaging, strength, mobility, movement patterns, activity level, symptoms, and individual history are all pieces of the puzzle. That’s why treating back pain shouldn’t look exactly the same for every person.
One of the biggest things I want my patients to understand is this: your back is not automatically fragile just because it hurts.
The goal of physical therapy isn’t simply to avoid everything that causes discomfort. It’s to determine what’s contributing to your symptoms and help you gradually restore movement, strength, tolerance, and confidence.
At WellForm Physical Therapy, I look at the whole person—not just an MRI or the painful spot—to develop an individualized plan that helps you get back to moving and doing the things that matter to you.
Don’t let fear of back pain keep you from moving. Your back may be more resilient than you think. 💪
