Everyday is precious…
•
Beyond this quote reminding us that time is our most sacred commodity, it drives home another important point for athletes…
•
Life is short, so don’t waste it sitting around waiting for perfect conditions.
•
It is said that fortune favors the bold, but more aptly, success comes to those who take action!
•
So as the end of 2026 comes into focus and thoughts of 2027 start to bubble to the surface, let us be inspired by Senecas wisdom.
•
Inspired not just to dream, but inspired to take action and make progress toward our goals!
•
Athlete Highlight: Kristen Smith has had an incredible year, one that is impressive when we look at the results sheet, but Kristen’s success is more impressive when we consider all she balances off the bike in her role as Mom, around the house, and at work.
•
Honoring Seneca’s words, Kristen is disciplined with her time, taking daily actions that get her closer to her goals day in and day out.
•
And for that we couldn’t be more proud, not simply for the results she has worked so hard to achieve, but for the assertive mindset she possesses throughout the year on and off her bike!
•
Chapeaux Champ, thank you for inspiring us and setting a great example for all of us at Big Wheel Coaching to aspire to. You rock!

MONDAY October 26th at 6:30PM PST
•
Performance fueling can be a confusing and sometimes daunting topic…
•
Lucky for us, our friends at First Endurance are willing to help our Bug Wheel Squad cut through the noise and simplify things with a Q&A style webinar on Monday October 26th at 6:30PM PST
•
This is a special opportunity exclusively for our Big Wheel Athletes!
•
So cue up your questions and put this on your calendar as we’ll be discussing performance fueling, pre-ride intake, and post-training recovery as well as some specific race-day fueling strategies.
•
As a bonus we will have a short discussion about the Filthy 50 and the unique fueling requirements for a 3-3.5hr full-gas race!
•
Zoom/Webinar link is in our bio.
•
Can’t wait to see you all there!

It’s taken a lot of years to understand the depth of this quote…
•
Mr Evert is not suggesting we celebrate wins and loses equally.
•
Nor is he implying that we should not be exuberant when we win or find success.
•
What this quote implies is that the ninja level of wisdom in sport is being similarly reflective and open to learning from both wins and loses.
•
You see, there is an old adage that says we either “win or learn” implying that wins do not require examination or reflection.
•
But an experienced Athlete can learn from both scenarios.
•
Because reflection and dissection are important parts of the competitive process that we must repeat again and again, while simultaneously developing our fitness in order to achieve our best.
•
In short our best performances lie on the other side of the assessment of our success and failures alike.
•
In fact it’s not “win or learn”, but instead, “always be learning” because in endurance sport, experience can be a skilled teacher if we are willing to examine and dissect our performances.
•
Athlete Highlight: We had a great crew in Mammoth for the Sierra Eastside MTB Assoc. Pedal Palooza this summer. Much fun was had, there were wins and there were loses, but in all instances we came together to learn from each performance and use it to prepare our Athletes for the racing ahead.
•
To say we had a blast in Mammoth would be an understatement! And we can’t wait for Pedal Palooza 2027!

🤘🏽🤘🏽Sunday — Sunday — Sunday 🤘🏽🤘🏽
•
We are fired up to join the Mazda Quick n Dirty mtb crew as well as our Chi Planken friends for the annual “Donut Ride” to recon the Hodges/“Lollipop” portion of the Filthy 50!
•
And… add our traditional BWC “Extra Credit” to include the Raptor Ridge and Start/Finish portions of the route for a “Full-Course” preview.
•
We will roll out with our QnD and OFC homies and upon the completion of their 30-mile route, we’ll grab some water at the Big Wheel pit, and head out for an extra 20-miles of riding to/from Raptor Ridge and the start/finish area.
•
All are welcome to join and has been the case in the past, we will likely have multiple groups out on course rolling at a pace that fits various fitness levels.
•
Sunday Schedule:
-8:00AM Donuts
-8:30AM Roll-Out
•
On the weather front… we’ll see what Mother Nature delivers in terms of moisture and adjust as needed to preserve the trails.
•
So until then, we ride at 8:30 from Sikes Adobe with the intent of a full course preview.
•
Hope to see you there!

🎉 Happy National Coaches Day! 🎉

We are honored to carry the title COACH and we are thankful for all the athletes we have had the privilege to coach over the past 16 (!!) years at BWC!

We love being in the trenches with our athletes and each other helping so everyone can reach if not surpass their goals!

Our workload is diverse and rewarding: Teaching - training - strategy - goal setting - feedback - accountability - structure - motivation….

Big shout out to everyone who helps us be Coach, we could not be here without you!

“Purpose” is a powerful fuel that drives us forward in the face of adversity, challenge, and difficulty.
•
In sport it’s all to easy to let dreams of glory be the impetuous for our journey…
•
But with this quote Mr Roosevelt reminds us that when purpose is our driver, doing the oftentimes tedious work that is required to achieve something worthwhile is as rewarding as the accomplishment itself.
•
And in a sport such as cycling, that demands many hours of dedication in order to develop the fitness, skill, and experience necessary to achieve success it’s an important reminder that when motivation runs thin, it is purpose that fuels a sustained commitment.
•
Athlete Highlight: Two of our U23 RIPPERS Maiya and Kash Steele were once junior riders with big dreams. And in just a few years time they have accomplished so much!
•
For her part Maiya is readying for Collegiate MTB Nationals this weekend and is poised for a great performance, while Kash is staring down the final two races of his Lifetime GP U23 season at Little and Big Sugar.
•
We are so proud of both Ms Maiya and Buddy Kash, not just for their stellar racing performances and the example they set for other junior cyclists, but for who they are off their bicycles!
•
Please help us wish both of them the very best of luck this weekend as they take on these late season challenges!
•
Tear it you two! We are rooting for you for our Big Wheel HQ and will be following the racing action closely!
