INFOCARE BOARD – EMERGENCY TRIAGE!

Learn More. Know Better. Stay Healthy!

Our new InfoCare Board is now available in the Emergency Triage Area, providing valuable information on common illnesses and medical conditions we manage every day.

Our Goal: To educate, raise awareness, and empower patients and families to better understand their health.

While waiting, take a moment to read, learn, and stay informed!

Because patient care goes beyond treatment — education matters too!

INVESTING IN KNOWLEDGE, IMPROVING PATIENT CARE!

We are proud to have two of our Emergency Department nurses , RN Waiketi & RN Norma , given the opportunity to attend the Samoa Pediatric Nursing Skills Overseas Training Program.

This is a valuable opportunity to strengthen their knowledge, enhance their clinical skills, and build confidence in managing paediatric emergencies.

Every opportunity to learn is an opportunity to save lives!

We wish our two nurses a successful and rewarding learning experience. We look forward to seeing them share their new knowledge and skills with the rest of our Emergency Team.

Topic: Trauma Call & Audit
Presenter: Dr Jerome

A big THANK YOU to Dr Jerome for his informative presentation delivered at our Emergency Grand Round on Tuesday and Doctors CME today, Wednesday.

The presentation highlighted the importance of early trauma recognition, rapid response, teamwork, proper documentation, and continuous improvement in patient care.

Trauma management is not just an Emergency Department responsibility but requires coordination across the whole hospital.

To our community: Early first aid and seeking medical attention without delay can save lives.

Key Message: An audit is not about finding faults, but identifying opportunities to improve our services and save more lives.

Thank you, Dr Jerome, for sharing these valuable insights!

Here are some highlights from the presentation.

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU! 👏
National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre

A big Fa’afetai tele lava to Erica Bleakley, Dr. Scott, Suzanna and Team for taking time out of their busy schedules to train our Emergency Staff on POP Application and MSK Assessment.

With fractures being common trauma presentations in our Emergency Department, this hands-on training strengthens our staff’s skills in providing safe and effective patient care.

PUBLIC HEALTH REMINDER: Early stabilisation and immobilisation of suspected fractures, both at the accident scene and upon arrival at the Emergency Department, are essential to prevent further injury, reduce pain, and protect surrounding nerves and blood vessels. Avoid unnecessary movement and seek immediate medical assistance.

❤️ Thank you once again for your valuable time, expertise, and support!

Together we learn, grow, and improve patient care.

🌺 Celebrating Our Everyday Heroes in Emergency Care!

Today, we proudly celebrate and honour all Emergency Nurses across Samoa and throughout the Pacific!

Behind every emergency is a dedicated nurse who remains calm under pressure, offers comfort in times of fear, and works tirelessly to save lives.

Your courage inspires us.
Your compassion brings hope.
Your resilience keeps us strong.
Your dedication makes a difference.

To our incredible Emergency Department nursing team at Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital, thank you for your sacrifices, teamwork, commitment.

✨ Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear nursing uniforms, work through the night and hold a patient’s hand when they need it most.

Proud to be an Emergency Nurse!
Proud to be part of the Pacific Emergency Care Family!

Happy Emergency Nurses’ Day from the Samoa Emergency Department!

Today, our ED team participated in another informative Grand Round focusing on Electrolyte Imbalance, an important condition that can become life-threatening if not recognised and treated early.

A big Fa’amalo and thank you to Dr Albert for sharing his knowledge and delivering such an informative presentation to our team.

💙 A HEALTH MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY

Don’t wait until it’s too late to seek medical help!

Severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalances can lead to serious complications, including abnormal heart rhythms, seizures, and shock.

🚨 Seek medical attention early if you experience:
✅ Persistent vomiting or diarrhoea
✅ Severe weakness or dizziness
✅ Muscle cramps or unusual fatigue
✅ Reduced urine output or signs of dehydration
✅ Palpitations or an irregular heartbeat

Severe confusion, fainting, or collapse requires immediate emergency care.

🇼🇸 O SE FE’AU MO LE MAMALU LAUTELE

Aua le fa’atali se’i tigaina lou gasegase ona fa’ato’a saili lea o se fesoasoani fa’afoma’i.

💙 Early recognition saves lives. Early treatment prevents complications.

Together, we continue to learn, improve, and provide safer emergency care for our people.

We are proud to share that our Charge Nurse, Aruna Uno Suemalo Lautusi, recently had the privilege of completing month-long observership with The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre Bayside Health Alfred in Melbourne, supported through a scholarship from the Regional Emergency and Critical Care Systems Strengthening Initiative.

Her observership concluded with attendance at the Global Emergency & Critical Care Symposium 2026, bringing together emergency and critical care professionals to share experiences, strengthen regional collaboration, and discuss practical solutions for improving care.

Aruna is one of several of our colleagues who have benefited from scholarship opportunities through RECSI, providing valuable exposure, professional development, and opportunities to bring new knowledge and experiences back to our Emergency Department and health service.

We are grateful to RECSI and Alfred Health for continuing to invest in the development of our emergency care workforce and for strengthening the connections between emergency care teams across the region.

Congratulations Aruna, and welcome home!
