CONFLICTING šŸ˜• I often find the health space so conflictingā€¦

- ā€˜Donā€™t eat dairy VS donā€™t eat processed foods (which oat milk and most ā€˜non-dairyā€™ milks are).
- Eat a range of plants VS the keto diet
- Exercise regularly VS give yourself and your nervous system rest
- Intermittent fasting VS feeling hunger in the morning
- Eat a veggie / vegan diet VS getting enough protein in your diet
- Donā€™t eat gluten VS non-restrictive diets

Do this, donā€™t do that, definitely donā€™t do that, this worked for meā€¦ the list goes on.

No wonder people get so confused trying to figure out what the ā€˜shouldā€™ be doing.

The reason there are so many different opinions is because different things work for different people. With health, when we want to know what we ā€˜shouldā€™ be doing, we need to turn inwards. Not look outwards for external influences.

Of course there are some things that we can get information and basics from BUT the only person who can tell you if itā€™s good for you is YOU. Health is so personal. Each and everyone of us is completely different so what works for one person may not work for the other.

For example, I come from a disordered eating background so any form of restriction be it in the form of cutting out food or time restricted eating isnā€™t good for me. Where as someone who is struggling with sleeping badly and eats late at night might benefit from eating earlier in the evening.

Thatā€™s why my health coaching practice is completely personal and we work together to figure out what works for YOU and empower you to make the best decisions for YOU.

HAIII šŸ‘‹ Itā€™s been a while! I canā€™t believe how long itā€™s been since I posted on here.

Jeeeez itā€™s been a delight taking some proper time off the socials. I do love sharing content but sometimes find it stressful with that nagging feeling it ā€˜should be postingā€™.

Why did I take time off? In all honesty, it just hasnā€™t been a priority. Over the last 1-2 months Iā€™ve really tried to focus on myselfā€¦ you know that cringey ā€˜self-development pieceā€™.

In September I found myself in a weird headspace and EXHAUSTED. So decided it was time to make some changes. I guess the biggest change has been Iā€™ve quit the booze. I did stoptober and loved it so much I have decided to continue for a year with no booze. Iā€™ll be sharing more about my alcohol free journey over the next few weeks / months (if I manage to keep active on here šŸ˜‚) as I think itā€™s an interesting one.

WHAT A WEEKEND šŸƒā€ā™€ļø I honestly feel so lucky to be surrounded by such incredible people.

What a weekend it was supporting everyone who took part in all the races! So proud of everyone who took part and of the supporters chasing the runners around the mountain at different points to cheer them on šŸ™Œ The community here never fails to amaze me.

Almost Ā£12,000 raised for Hattyā€™s Fund - SO SO incredible šŸ’œ

I didnā€™t manage to get a snap of the boys so I had to steal that from and (I hope thatā€™s ok!)

SWEATING šŸ˜… Not to look goodā€¦ but to FEEL good.

My relationship with exercise hasnā€™t always been good. In fact it was pretty darn awful at one point.

Working out because I felt I had to (queue ā€˜rest dayā€™ guilt).

Working out to burn calories.

To try and look a certain way.

I canā€™t believe how much my mindset has changed around exercise over the last few years. Itā€™s no longer something that has to be done daily, I CHOOSE to do it. To feel good. No longer pushing through exhaustion for calorie burning.

Whatā€™s helped? I canā€™t put it down to one sole thing but a few things that have been a major helpā€¦
- Choosing sports I enjoy. For me thatā€™s sports with some ā€˜puzzle solvingā€™, like BJJ or climbing.
- Doing stuff in the gym you like and working out for performance goals (rather than aesthetic goals). I love weights & strength training, so setting myself performance based goals means I opt for quality rather than quantity in a workout.
- Doing activities with friends. I LOVE team sports but a lot of them involve running (which I canā€™t do). So the next best thing for me is doing things with friends, like hiking. Youā€™re much more likely to spot me on a 6 hour hike with a friend (and a sandwich ofc) rather than on my own.

5 MINUTE SALAD šŸ„— That scores points on taste AND nutrition.

This was yesterdays quick and easy lunch. I used carrot tops and radish leaves from the garden for the greens but you can use pretty much whatever takes your fancy!

BEETROOT & FETA LOADED TOAST šŸ„Ŗ So quick and so yumā€¦ this was todays much needed 5 minute lunch.

Simply pop the bread in the toaster, chop up the beetroot. When the toast is ready drizzle with olive oil (ofc), crumble feta on the toast, add the chopped beetroot and top with some fresh mint and a crack of black pepper.

Honestly so easy. Health doesnā€™t need to be complicated.

BERRY SMOOTHIE šŸ“ For the heat wave! šŸ„µ

Super quick and easy recipe for a cooling berry smoothie.

Ingredients:
- Handful of frozen mixed berries
- 1 chopped up banana (if frozen then better)
- 2 tbs Greek yoghurt
- Cup of milk of choice (I used almond)
- 1 tbs chia seeds

Chuck it all in a blender and wellā€¦ blend! Add water if itā€™s a bit think.

If your fruit isnā€™t frozen you can chuck some ice cubes in to cool it down.

Sit down, enjoy and cool down!

I think making something from nothing is a life skill everyone needs. This pasta dish takes 10-15 mins and uses 4 ingredients (5 if you want to finish with some extra garniiiish).

Guilty feelings surrounding food can be a sign of an unhealthy relationship with food. It can start to control your food excision and your life.

Iā€™m extreme cases it can lead to disordered eating or an eating disorder...

Iā€™m here to tell you food guilt is not something you should have to put up with. And YES you can eat ā€˜unhealthyā€™ foods and STILL be healthy.

FIRST HARVEST THIS SUMMER šŸŒ± Ok so I might be going deep on vegetable growing but hear me out on this oneā€¦

I just harvested my first radishā€™s this year. I realised when I was picking them that I planted too many seeds and too closely togetherā€¦

This was because last year I didnā€™t plant enoughā€¦

Am I annoyed? Far from it. Iā€™ve never had a veg patch before so the fact that I actually can grow things is beyond me.

Every ā€˜failureā€™ is an opportunity to learn. And next year the radishā€™s will be ON POINT.

Or not. Weā€™ll see.

PEANUT BUTTER šŸ„œ Admittedly not the best picture but itā€™s the easiest thing to make.

Itā€™s hard to find natural peanut butter here in Switzerland that doesnā€™t have a shed load of sugar or palm oil that doesnā€™t coast an arm and a leg!

Thatā€™s why I like to make it - it takes no more than 10 minutes and is SO easy.

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU šŸ„‹ My new obsession. And the theme of this weekā€™s blog.

Genuinely didnā€™t realise I would love it quite so much. Itā€™s only been a couple of months but itā€™s definitely here to stay!

FOOD DECISIONS šŸ¤” What do you base your food decisions on? There are MANY things that can influence our choice of food.

- Environment
- Emotions
- Hormones
- Seasons
- Personal taste
- Activity level
- Dietary requirements
- Income
- Nutritional value
- Calories
- Cravings

The list goes onā€¦

What affects my food choices has certainly changed over the years. From experiencing disordered eating where I would only eat low-calorie or ā€˜healthyā€™ foods to now eating intuitively what the eff I want.

Actually, looking at it from outsiders perspective you may think my diet was better/healthier in the past. BUT the difference is my relationship with food (and my body).

Try and tune into whatā€™s driving your food choices. It may help understand yourself, and your relationship with food, better.
