It’s always confusing when looking at your symptoms, am I just over reacting? Or is something actually wrong?
✖️
Ask yourself this question, “Are you able to be your best self, or are you limited by your symptoms?”
✖️
If you are limited by symptoms, it probably means that you need to look a little deeper into what you are going through.
✖️
When talking about periods, this question correlates perfectly in the sense that if it is limiting your day to day abilities. This doesn’t mean that it affects you every day but if it affects some days/tasks/exercise etc there could be an underlying condition or reason.
✖️
We need to stop normalizing painful and unusual period symptoms. We need to stop ignoring pain and unusual symptoms in general.. pain is not normal.. let’s talk about that!

Self care isn’t just baths and candles. Self care is not just meditation and eating right. Self care isn’t just exercise and time alone.
✖️
Self care is what you need to do to make yourself happy and the best you can be.
✖️
Happiness and success is self defined this self care is too.
✖️
The only rule is making sure you are caring for yourself physically, mentally and spiritually.
✖️
What do you practice for self care?

To be healthy is far more than eating a salad and living in the gym.
✖️
Having a support system that has your medical professionals (physio, doctor, therapist etc), friends, family, partners, your fur baby, can be a game changer. Having people know why you are going through isn’t only good for when you need it but also just knowing that your support system knows how to help you can ease a lot of stress.
✖️
Cliche but water is a game changer, drinking enough water helps your body retain what’s important and flush what isn’t. It allows for your body to have optimal function which will help your health.
✖️
Fuel your body with the things it needs, there are many ways to incorporate greens and healthy foods into your diet that aren’t dressingless salad. Find the ones that work for you and eat that damn pizza when you crave it.. it will actually help maintain that healthy lifestyle.
✖️
Rest rest rest!! If you are tired, not well or in pain, make sure to rest. Resting when you first notice these things will help you not have to dedicate extra time to it later on when you’re burnt out!
✖️
You are not you without you. You are the most important in this equation. Without you feeling like yourself you will be unable to contribute positively to others.
✖️
What are your go today for maintaining your health?!

Endometriosis is broken down into four stages.
✖️
1 - Minimal, a few small implants or lesions with little to no scar tissue
2 - Mild, More implants that are deeper in the tissue and more scar tissue
3 - Moderate, There are many deep implants, could have small cysts on one or both ovaries, thick bands of scar tissue
4 - Severe, Deep implants and thick adhesions, there are also large cysts on one or both ovaries
✖️
What about pain? What about all of the nasty symptoms that come with this condition. Well, they aren’t accounted for.
✖️
The fact is, a person could have stage 1 and have debilitating pain where someone with stage four doesn’t know they have endo until they can not fall pregnant.
✖️
This disease is so different per person and we need to treat it that way. Patients are getting shrugged off because they ‘only’ have stage 1 when in fact they could have more pain than the average endo warrior.
✖️
We need a better/multiple staging systems for this systemic disease so that patients can receive the care they deserve.

Ablation- one of my least favourite words!
✖️
Ablation is burning the endometriosis lesions on the surface. Symptoms can go but they usually always come back in no time since the endometriosis lesions usually go beyond the surface layer they burn.
✖️
Think of it as the roof of the dandelion, if you leave roots behind it will keep growing back, you need to cut the surrounding tissue to ensure that this doesn’t happen (excision).
✖️
A study in 2017 proved what leading professionals had been saying for years prior.
✖️
The study showed two groups and a control group. The excision group had significantly greater improvement than the group who received ablation.
✖️
So what is the difference?
Look to my home page to find out, there you’ll find a three post visual as well as explanations.

Regrowth of endometriosis can happen even after surgery. Not only that but symptoms can get worse even without regrowth.
✖️
There are many reasons this can happen.
✖️
First, your endo was properly excised but nothing was put in place to stop adhesions from forming after surgery.
✖️
Second, your excision surgery was properly done but you have pain from a secondary source.
✖️
Your excision was not done properly, leaving endo lesions behind.
✖️
Your surgeon ablated the endo and it grows back.
✖️
There are many other factors to pain and the success of surgery but here are the main few!

Laparoscopic Excision allows for the disease to be properly, meticulously removed - cut out - from all areas, without damaging surrounding structures or removing otherwise healthy organs.
✖️
Excision for endometriosis is associated with improvement of pain, fertility and quality of life.
✖️
Excision is a highly advanced surgical technique requiring extensive training.
✖️
The surgeon must be able to identify the disease in all of its manifestations, including less common areas such as peritoneal tension, atypical clear vestibules, extra pelvic endometriosis and so on.
✖️
If the surgeon is not vetted on these types of the disease, the disease can be left behind untreated. Surgeons can only see what they recognize.
✖️
Excision is the gold standard for endometriosis but in not a cure.

Part two of what to try to find relief in a flare.
✖️
Alternatives Edition
✖️
Sometimes the regular stuff just doesn’t do it, these are a few options that I have tried recently.
✖️
Medicated creams such as muscle creams, and CBD creams can help during a flare, even if it is just soothing or taking the edge off.
✖️
Weighted Blankets are a new god send for me.. the weight really feels good as it adds that bit of pressure desired. I don’t know about you but I personally apply pressure when I’m in a flare and have no meds on hand so this really is a great asset.
✖️
CBD/THC in bath bombs, creams, oils, v**e etc.. I think this is a great option and will have a whole post about it soon. (It’s legal everywhere in Canada).
✖️
Tens machines are another great option as they send signals to the area in pain that help with circulation and cancel pain. I find that these work while they are on but the pain does come back a bit after use.

When you have a chronic illness that can flare up for different reasons, it can be just as exhausting weight the pros and cons to doing everyday things.
✖️
Do I grocery shop this morning? Because if I do I will flare up and be out for the rest of the day.
✖️
Do I have a few drinks with friends? Because a few will put me into a 2 day flare.
✖️
Can I be intimate with my partner? If I am I might not be able to enjoy the rest of our evening.
✖️
These are legitimate everyday concerns when you have a condition that can flare for any little reason.
✖️
What are the questions you ask yourself in situations like this?

Part one of what to try to find relief in a flare.
✖️
Hot and Cold Edition
✖️
Personally heat and cold are two of the things that help better than anything else for me.
✖️
Heating pads for when you can be near a plug in, this option is amazing since most heat pads have the auto turn off feature, multiple heat settings and are able to be taken and used anywhere with an outlet.
✖️
Hot baths are a great way to alleviate pain and muscle aches and flare up pain. I personally find this to be a great relaxer and pain reliever before bed the only downside is it doesn’t last long after the bath for me and sometimes getting in and out of the bath is too hard in a flare.
✖️
Hot and cold patches and creams are a great option for relief on the go, they usually aren’t as helpful but can offer a bit of relief if you have to go out.
✖️
Ice packs are a great pain relief as well, something new I have been trying and really liking.

Do you know what Menorrhagia means?!
✖️
It’s the fancy word for heavy period bleeding.
✖️
A whopping 35% of Canadians assigned female at birth (And I’m sure this isn’t accounting for everyone) have this condition.
✖️
Now, heavy bleeding can be caused be many different things, some simple and others more complex. It isn’t always a sign something is wrong but it is always a good idea to bring it up with your doctor if you are experiencing it.
✖️
How do I know I have this?
✖️
Well generally we are supposed to bleed 10-35ml of blood per period.
If you are experiencing a little more than this with no other symptoms, there probably isn’t cause for concern.
✖️
With that being said, if you are experiencing any of the following, it might be time to see a doctor.
✖️
• 80ml of blood loss or more during a period
• Large blood clots
• Soaking through tampons and pads
• Bleeding for longer than 7 days

What is Period Positivity?
✖️
Period Positivity is ditching the negative connotations around menstrual cycles.
✖️
I HAVE A PERIOD, SOMETIMES I BLEED THROUGH MY UNDERWEAR... BIG WHOOP!
✖️
Even though we might feel good about our cycles now, we still need to speak up and break the stigma for generations to come. There are teenagers and young adults who are struggling in silence and this needs to change.. it’s 2021!
✖️
Period positivity is speaking candidly about our cycles so that others feel comfortable.
✖️
Period Positivity is using inclusive language and helping people of all races, genders and ages with their period.
✖️
Period Positivity is making sure that menssurators are knowledgeable and in control of their own health.
✖️
Period Positivity is when everyone who bleeds has access to proper information, care and products to aid them in their cycles.
