When holistic occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) combine forces, patients can experience comprehensive care that addresses both physical and psychological aspects of life. This approach focuses on treating the whole person rather than just specific symptoms or conditions, leading to improved overall well-being and functional outcomes. Its has been pure magic watching the children grown and develop into a better version of themselves. Small changes lead to big results.
What questions do you have and how can we help?

Does waiting for something you want not seem like forever?
Imagine being a kiddo who maybe can self regulate or maybe canât. Waiting is hard! One of my favorite recommendations that I have used over the years is this visual timer. Itâs take the âblack holeâ out of waiting. It provides a clear cut âhow much time is leftâ that is easy for kids to understand.

It is not always easy to get kids to try new foods. Having kids help in the kitchen has many benefits.
Curious what they might be?
Involving kids in cooking fosters important life skills like teamwork, following instructions, and basic culinary knowledge. It also promotes a positive attitude towards food, encourages healthy eating habits, and creates enjoyable family bonding experiences.
You can tailor the recipe and level of assistance to meet the needs of a child.

Happy Merry Everything to all! We are in the home stretch of 2023. It has been a memorable year for so many, myself included. Definitely a year for the books.
Many of the families that I have had the pleasure of working with have expressed some letâs say trepidation going into the holidays. So many opinions from family and friends on how they should do things. In an effort to let everyone know they arenât alone, letâs share some unpopular opinions that have heard or may have worried you going into the holiday season. Hopefully, we can get a good laugh.
Cheers to a wonderful end to 2023 and start to 2024. Big things coming!!

The Florida weather has been beautiful. It was the perfect opportunity to take our OT in Real Life sessions outside.
Outdoor play offers numerous benefits for children, including improved physical health, enhanced social skills, increased creativity, and better emotional well-being. Exposure to nature also promotes cognitive development and helps reduce stress. Who doesnât want that?!

Most parents (and even some medical professionals) will assume that a 20/20 vision exam means that a childâs vision isnât a concern. Since ophthalmology checks for visual acuity (clarity and sharpness of vision), but does not look at how your eyes work together, they may completely miss issues related to poor vision pairing and visual tracking.Â
This means that your child can have a 20/20 vision exam, BUT if their eyes are not working well together, you may see the results of that in poor handwriting, challenges with midline activities like shoe tying and buttoning, or clumsiness. Pretty crazy, huh?! Your eyes can be responsible for all of that.
In an academic setting đ«, you may see also see struggles with inattention or poor reading. Many children with poor binocular vision present like a child with Attention Deficit Disorder. Teachers may see these children looking up or looking off during activities like reading or copying - when in some cases, these actions can be an attempt to reset their over-taxed vision system.
Oddly enough, your child will likely not even know that their eyes arenât working well together (if you had seen the world one way your entire life, how would you know that itâs not right?), so your child may never know how to communicate any difficulties.Â
Can you relate to this? Do you suspect that your child may have difficulty with coordinated eye movements?Â
Letâs chat!

Tactile play fosters a range of developmental benefits in children, including:
1. Sensory Exploration: Tactile activities allow children to experience different textures, temperatures, and consistencies, enhancing their sensory awareness.
2. Fine Motor Skills: Engaging with tactile materials like playdough or beads helps children develop dexterity and coordination in their fingers and hands.
3. Cognitive Development: Tactile play encourages problem-solving and creativity as children manipulate materials and experiment with different ways of interacting with them.
4. Language Development: Exploring textures and materials provides opportunities for children to describe their experiences, expanding their vocabulary and communication skills.
5. Emotional Regulation: Tactile play can have a calming effect, helping children manage emotions and stress. It also provides an outlet for self-expression.
6. Social Interaction: Group tactile activities encourage sharing, cooperation, and collaboration, promoting positive social interactions.
7. Brain Development: The sensory input from tactile play contributes to the development of neural connections in the brain, supporting overall cognitive growth.
8. Body Awareness: Tactile experiences contribute to childrenâs understanding of their own bodies and how they interact with the world around them.
9. Creativity and Imagination: Tactile play encourages open-ended exploration, allowing children to imagine and create without limitations.
Overall, tactile play plays a vital role in holistic child development by engaging multiple senses, promoting physical and cognitive growth, and nurturing emotional well-being.
