Life is an obstacle course. I never know when that unsuspecting misstep might happen - like this week: I generally opt for "anti-inflammatory" choices whenever possible. However, this week matcha tripped me up. Yep, matcha! Who knew? Matcha is touted for its anti-inflammatory properties, how can this be my enemy? Here is the glitch - I was feeling a cold creeping up on me (I dodge colds like they are deadly bullets! - more on that another day) & I figured matcha, with all of its antioxidants would be beneficial. Well, it is, except in certain cases.... chronic sinusitis (autoimmune) being one of them. The old me was continually plagued with sinus issues, but the newly healed me has escaped sinus infections for several years. However, managing autoimmune disease is a delicate balance. Managing multiple autoimmune diseases can sometimes feel like Cirque de Soleil. It's like living life on a series of teeter totters. On most days, matcha is my friend - IBS, Hashimoto's, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis - but if I begin to sniffle, the wind shifts and matcha becomes my enemy.
How do I deal with it? One day at a time.
Without getting into the intricacies of a dysregulated immune system, suffice it to say that my internal game of Pacman is in overdrive today fighting invaders and I will hold off on matcha for awhile until this battle is finished (& I win!) Today I will pump up the volume on Vitamin C rich foods and add lots of onion and garlic to my meals as I sip on hot water with lemon!
Today's Lessons: There is no food that is always a Superfood for everyone. We are all unique individuals. Each day presents a different set of circumstances. Know your body. Watch your step. Live intentionally. And when you are steered off-path, find your way back & keep trudging.
