Sometimes we've got some persistent and challenging thoughts or emotions.⁣

We don't feel comfortable having them and we want to push them away.⁣

However, they will come back again and again or they will appear in different ways (physical symptoms).⁣

What can you do?⁣

Imagine you're in a guesthouse, this thought or emotion knocks on your door.⁣

You invite them in, you make space for them and as a good host you offer them something to drink or eat. ⁣

You listen to them, you talk with them. And after a while, they will leave.⁣

When they come back it will be like welcoming an old friend. You will spend some time together until it's time to say goodbye again.⁣

This emotion is not you, it's just a guest that passes through your inner guesthouse.⁣

There are many benefits to working remotely and I am a huge supporter. ⁣⁣

However, it can be stressful, especially if you're not used to it.⁣⁣

You might feel 𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝, have too many 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, you don't have a specific 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 on when to start and stop working or it's hard to 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬.⁣⁣

Meditation accepts us just as we are-in both our tantrums and our bad habits, in our love and commitments and happiness. It allows us to have a more flexible identity because we learn to accept ourselves and all of our human experience with more tenderness and openness. We learn to accept the present moment with an open heart. Every moment is incredibly unique and fresh, and when we drop into the moment, as meditation allows us to do, we learn how to truly taste this tender and mysterious life that we share together.⁣

I don't know about you but sometimes I've got several deadlines at the same day, different clients want to talk to me at the same time, new projects that I don't want to turn down appear.⁣⁣

And while I try to deal with all these, I've got people around me distracting me, since "I'm home anyway".⁣⁣

I can feel the stress building up my body.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬. ⁣⁣

I take a few deep breaths, settling the mind and then I feel grounded.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I can think more clear, organise my time and tackle one issue after the other.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Mindfulness also taught me to set my boundaries and say no when I have to. There's lots of self-talk but I learn to be kinder to myself and accept me.⁣⁣

𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞?

Some people tell me "I tried it but I cannot do it". ⁣

When people say they cannot meditate it's like saying you cannot breath.⁣

Everyone can sit down and watch their breathing. You don't even need to sit down,you can walk, swim, lay down, take a bath.⁣

When someone says they cannot meditate it's usually because their experience was different than the one they expected.⁣

They might expect some kind of out-of-this-earth experience. ⁣
Maybe they didn't like what they felt.⁣

𝘕𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘵, 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘨𝘰 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦.⁣

Just notice your breathing for 3 minutes. Notice what you experience. ⁣

𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲.⁣

As a person who has struggled with anxiety the majority of her life, I used to take myself too seriously.⁣

In stressful situations, I could only focus on my bubble. The only thing I could see was a dead-end, and feel like I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders.⁣

That caused me to be less effective but also to make the situation even more difficult.⁣

Bringing lightness and humour into our lives can help and take the weight off our shoulders. We see a problem from different perspectives, and we can deal with it effectively.⁣

I don't believe that we should avoid serious aspects of our lives, or live in denial. However, a sense of humour will bring some balance and remind us of what is essential.⁣

How can we walk mindfully and be connected to the present and ourselves?⁣⁣

🌻 Notice your feet on the ground (bonus if you're walking barefoot in the sand!) ⁣⁣

🌻 Listen to the sounds around you.⁣⁣
Without judging, just be open to whatever you can hear. ⁣⁣

🌻 Notice your breathing without forcing it. ⁣⁣

🌻 Feel the sun or wind on your skin ⁣⁣

🌻 Observe the surroundings, trees, buildings, water ⁣⁣

I used to believe that at some point in my life, I will have all my goals achieved, and then I will be happy for the rest of my life. The.End.⁣

It took me a long time to understand that it's not how life works.⁣

If you wait until your life is perfect to be happy, you will never be.⁣

Embrace the imperfection.⁣

Is your life messy? Is it not as you thought it would be 10 years ago?⁣

If you live in that bubble of "why is it not perfect" or "I'll wait until it gets perfect" you will miss it all.⁣

You'll miss the simple moments, the beautiful moments, even the tough ones. Because these are all you, this is YOUR life.⁣

"My mind is full of thoughts, I cannot relax." ⁣

"I don't think meditation is for me, I cannot stop thinking." ⁣

Our thoughts are like clouds on the sky, they pass by, one after the other.⁣

You cannot do anything about them.⁣

You can acknowledge and watch them. You can notice the different forms they take, the way they move and their direction. You can be grateful for the shadow they provide or the rain they might bring.⁣

Or you can complain about them and how they hide the sun.

They will be there no matter what you do and what you say.⁣

Cultivating Mindfulness and practising meditation can be a tough process.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You might look calm and peaceful from the outside but sometimes what you experience is hard work, upsetting emotions and painful moments.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Being aware of your feelings and thoughts; being able to sit with them and accept them is not the easiest thing to do.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I believe, without some sense of humour, curiosity and playfulness, Mindfulness would be unbearable.⁣⁣

✨ Stop taking yourself so seriously.⁣⁣

✨ Bring joy in your everyday tasks, even if they're boring.⁣⁣

✨ Enjoy the process and don't hang up so much on the results.⁣⁣

You might feel that if you don't have full control over a situation, people or your life, everything will fall apart.⁣

However, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺.⁣

Maybe you need to make some adaptations, for example, you cannot go to a party, but you can still meet with a friend, or have a virtual party.⁣

❣️ 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. ⁣

Spend less time worrying about the future or fixating about the past. 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵.⁣

❣️ 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 ⁣

For example, the coronavirus pandemic is a reality that we experience right now. Obsessing and panicking over it will not make the situation better.⁣

❣️ 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞'𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.⁣

What people do or say is their responsibility. If someone is arrogant or selfish, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥.⁣

You will do the right thing, and they will feel ashamed and/or change their behaviour.⁣
