So as you do.....
I'm sat on my phone doom scrolling with one hand and the other repetitively pulling my hair 🫣
I stop and read this infographic and the accompanying info Self-Love Rainbow have shared to find I have all 3 of these BFRB behaviours and never even knew it was a thing with a name!

I like to raise awareness about BFRBs (body focused repetitive behavior) because so many people see things like nail-biting and skin-picking and their first reaction is disgust.
Often, behaviors like this are a reaction to anxiety (or OCD, or ADHD, but really experts aren't 100% sure, it might even be related to genetics) and are (often but not always) an attempt to self-soothe and/or a compulsion. It's not a character flaw or laziness or a simple bad habit that can be easily stopped.

Here are some common BFRBs:

(Trichotillomania) causes people to pull out the hair from their scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, and other parts of the body.

(Excoriation) causes people to repetitively touch, rub, scratch, pick at, or dig into their skin, resulting in skin discoloration, scarring, and even severe tissue damage and disfigurement.

(Onychophagia) causes people to bite their nails past the nail bed and chew on cuticles until they bleed, leading to soreness and infection.

Other BFRBs include cheek, tongue, and lip biting, nail picking, nose picking, and scab picking.

School can be so challenging for our neurodiverse children and adolescents, and for us parents and carers as well!

Children with ADHD (or any neurodiversity) have to put in so much extra effort to engage in the classroom and playground and are often put in situations that challenge them more than they would challenge a neurotypical child.

I try to let my kids decompress after school. It is important that we just be with them, listen to them, stay calm in their storms and advocate for them where we can.

My daughter made "P***o" this afternoon as she was struggling after a full day at school, then a challenging loud and aggitating auditory experience on the bus ride home.

I found her snuggled in a ball on my bed, face down just calming herself by squeezing P***o and rocking herself back and forward.

I came and laid next to her and facilitated a quiet but supported space with no expectations to connect or communicate.

She just needed some time, then opened up and told me all about P***o, the ghost, who she made to make herself feel less frustrated.

Remember school can be hard. Allow your children "nothing" time. Time just to relax, decompress and regulate after a long day.

This is really helpful for any parent but especially helpful to anyone with their own ADHD Prince or Princess.
It's especially difficult to manage outbursts of emotions, in these moments we need to stop conditioned reactions like shouting or punishing in these moments. That kind of reaction can cause damage, we are scorning and telling them they are wrong. This causes them to feel invalidated, not safe or understood. We need to look from a different perspective, they are having an outburst because they are overwhelmed and cannot control it. We are shouting at them for something they don't understand and can't control. REALLY this reflects ourselves! We are shouting because WE DONT UNDERSTAND AND CANT CONTROL WHAT IS HAPPENINGS! Think about it.... Their reactions reflect themselves but we tend to take it way more personally such as they are being disrespectful, they shouldn't get anger, what is wrong with them or this is "naughty" behaviour that isn't allowed. Our reactions reflect ourselves too, we tend to shout, tell off or punish them for bad behaviour but really this reaction is really lack of control. Lack of understanding and we don't know what else to do.

Now if your an ADHD Queen then your more likely to actually understand their overwhelm as we've felt it too.
Sometimes the conditioning kicks in fast before we grasp what is happening but slowing down..... Giving yourself a minute to think about it like this illustration shows here gives us time to think and react differently. Take the opportunity to learn to understand them better. Connect with what is REALLY happening in the moment with your tiny human that isn't coping very well and is expressing that to you in the only way they can as they won't understand what's happening either. Love & support your Prince or Princess through their difficult times regardless of ADHD or not. This is just plan compassionate parenting with takes alot of patience and practice 🙏

October is ADHD awareness month.

It is also when Specific Learning Disorders (such as dyslexia or dysgraphia) awareness month and Developmental Language Disorder awareness day (14th October) occur.

What do these have in common?

They are all classified as Neurodevelopmental disorders, and they often co-occur.

The new Australian Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline for ADHD recommends that all people with ADHD should also be assessed for co-occurring Developmental Language Disorder and Specific Learning Disorder, so that we can support people the way they NEED to be supported in the classroom, workplace and at home.

But as part of these assessments, don't forget the PERSON that requires this support. Don't just focus on what they CAN'T do or have DIFFICULTY doing.

Remember to focus on their strengths - strengthen them even more and use the strengths to support their challenges.

That's how we can get ADHD DONE DIFFERENTLY.

I absolutely love this one!
At 36 I can't seem to stand to keep shoes on. I feel compelled to take them off for me to feel free and connected to energies around me and in nature......
Yes as a parent with children we naturally worry from a safety aspects but their sensory or energy development so also so important.

Many children, will naturally remove their shoes to play, climb and be outside. Dear Parent, it's okay.

It's okay to remove the shoes.

Nature Play - take a step back and observe your child at play

Being undisguised for 35 years was probably the easiest part......
The work really starts when the diagnosis comes along......
A diagnosis isn't a label or a stigma. To some they fear it because they think it will add limits... But I don't believe that at all.

Diagnosis is not to disable us but is enabling us!
Enabling us to understand what it is affecting us. In that we can learn why and how, this enables us to learn the effects so we can therefore do more of we can do or work round the things we can't.

Finding yourself is a disassociation of understanding ourselves. But learning to discover ourselves brings us to our true selves that we can truly accept. This offers healing and wholeness, we can shed the parts of us that are products of conditioning, way of life or just down right cruelty of the word we've experienced. Understanding ourselves so deeply we can then see the parts separate from that are not truly authentic to who we really are.

ADHD, DYSLEXIA AND HOLISTICALLY BEING NEURODIVERGENT IS A BEAUTIFUL GIFT TO ME.

It's makes me who I am.
It's my gift, it's my uniqueness, it's make up, it's my journey, it's my birth right and my power of authenticity to live in a world full of bulls**t judgmental, self imaging, conformist societies, materialist living, peer pressure, expectational conditioning, human control and political manipulation that can effect our personal growth.

So with that all realised I picked a 👑 to empower my true self.
Own it. Command it. Be it. Use it to show it off, bemand respect for it and represent power aswell as command who it makes me I am with pride.

I hope I can inspire my own ADHD PRINCE AND PRINCE to rule their own realms as they wish. And inspire some others to do the same on their journeys in this complex life path we try to navigate........

Just because others don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there but unfortunately this is how we can be treated as parents of children. As a ADHD QUEEN 👑 I call upon all other ADHD KINGS & QUEENS to connect and support their ADHD Prince's & Princesses in the ways you feel it right for them and basically ignore everyone else's judgement or opinions. Remember you are the monarch in your realm in which you are the independent ruler. No-one else just you!

Many Autistic/neurodivergent children bottle up their feelings at school, in front of health care professionals, at social functions or other settings, which means their struggles might not be apparent to people outside their immediate family.

Meltdowns or shutdowns might occur only at home, but they are VERY real. Many adults experience something similar.
