When Whitney and I really started thinking about what we wanted our teacher training to look like we both decided that traditional yoga philosophy was not the approach we wished to take. Partnering with Dara was the perfect option. Ayurveda is considered the sister science to yoga. And boy does Dara know her sh*t! This is 60 seconds of a 3 hour presentation introducing us to Ayurveda, The 5 Elements and the 3 Doshas. We just barely scratched the surface on this ancient practice. We are so very fortunate to not only be able to teach in Dara’s beautiful studio, but to also have her wealth of knowledge on all things Ayurveda.
Ayurveda has specific practices that our teacher trainees (and us!) can put into practice and use daily.
I’ve come to realize in this past month of training that pretty much any yoga training can teach you postures and have you practice and teach them, but we hope we are inspiring our future teachers to go deeper into themselves. Ayurveda is one way to do that. ♥️
Just breathe. Sounds simple but to consciously be aware of and manipulate your breath can take a bit of work. However the rewards of a regular pranayama practice are immense! When my anxiety is at its highest or when I’m experiencing a panic attack I rely on using a 3 part breath or a box breath to calm my central nervous system. This month in our FIRE membership is heavy on breath. While traditional pranayama has its own benefits and purposes, it’s important that we understand what’s happening in the body when we breathe so that we can cue better. Not only that, we can actually “stretch from the inside out”! Incorporating new breathing techniques can actually help us and our students find the mobility and balance that we are looking for.

I wanted to drop a new kind of message on this last day of registration for FIRE 🔥
I didn’t discover the nuances to asana practice on my own. Many teachers along my journey have blown my mind with simple things like bringing a bolster into pigeon. Some teachers have said a cue that suddenly changed a whole pose for me. Some teachers have taught me that being strong is equally as important as being bendy. Some teachers have given me the space to cry, feel, and be more in touch with my inner world.
We want to teach you to be the kind of teacher that has an impact. The kind of teacher who is intuitive and authentic. The kind of teacher whose knowledge and message lands on students in a way that leaves them feeling more connected and inspired.
The yoga world isn’t at capacity for great teachers. Just because you will never *be* your favorite teacher, doesn’t mean the world doesn’t need your personal touch.

You finish yoga teacher training, now what? Keep going! As teachers it’s so important to keep re-examining our way of doing and saying things as teachers. It’s important to keep learning and growing.
Although yoga is something that has been around for many, many years. The way we teach it can evolve, while still honoring its routes.
⭐️ What drew you to yoga and made you want to teach? Is that present in YOUR teaching?
⭐️ Do you bring more than just the physical postures to your class?
⭐️ Are your cues accurate and safe?
There are so many questions to keep asking ourselves as yoga teachers. This questioning and learning shouldn’t stop once you get that 200 hr certification.
For years when I got students into Legs-Up-the-Wall (Viparita Karani) I would tell them this posture was great because it was “reversing the flow of blood in the body.” Why did I say this? Because several teachers I respected and learned from said it. They probably heard it from someone they respected. And so it goes. It does NOT in fact reverse the flow of blood in the body because we have one-way valves in our veins that prevent this from happening, which is a good thing so we don’t die 😉 Lesson? Re-examine and question your cues.
