The man. The myth. The legend. I posted him in my story but it doesn’t do it justice. I am still geeking out. Totally fan girling. The fact that you can meet a Pilates LEGEND, spend time in their presence, learn from them and they have the most AMAZING, UPLIFTING, JOYOUS energy. You asked for this. I am always getting asked what I think about Chick-Fil-A’s food.

Well, let me tell ya, I had an early love affair with Chick-fil-A.

While in college, I’d eat there at least 3 to 4 times a week, sometimes more. I’d pick up one of their sandwiches on my way back from the gym and thought they were healthy because they were only around 400 calories. If only I knew then what I do now!

I finally came to a point in my life where I realized that eating “food” full of artificial ingredients was making me feel and look horrible. It was not worth it.

INSECURITY

Something I struggle with everyday, whether it’s in my friendships, relationships, work or in myself.
——
Life is hard.
——
Plain and simple.
——
I’m discovering that I have so many self destructive tendencies and while I tear myself down asking myself... “Why?”
“Why do I do this?”
“Why do I feel this way?”
——
Well like most people you’re now spending a quite a large a chunk of your adult life working on improving that “you”. Making it fitter, smarter, more confident, less worrisome, more successful, less anxious, more likable, less insecure, more powerful, less uncertain, more attractive, and on and on and on. You’re now a definable, set thing that you have to make better, improve upon, and eventually win over. But why?
——
The more complex life becomes, the more miserable were likely to become. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can fill the void.
——
Be committed to give yourself fully to the notion that you are, once and for all, done with the life you’ve had up to this point.
——
This thing called life is all about the journey.
——
Celebrate the steps... every last one of them and acknowledge that’s how you’ve gotten to where you are... if you think that place is good, don’t let up, keep going! If you think it’s not great, welp it’s time to be honest with yourself and make a change.
——
Whatever it is, you got this. One step at a time.
——

5 years ago with sorority sisters at I hit my breaking point. I hated every picture we took. I was beyond self-conscious and had been sick and tired for a long time but doctor after doctor made me feel like a hypochondriac. My friends convinced me that I could run the 2016 Princess Half Marathon. I didn’t run 90% of it but I FINISHED IT!!! More importantly it started the journey of me becoming my own best advocate. I stopped trusting every word a doctor said and started listening to my body. Pictures on the left are Nov 2015, right is Nov 2020. It’s never too late to reclaim your life!! •

You know better than anyone when something is not right...trust your gut!! Be your own advocate!! Especially in the States, it is all about the miracle pill, the miracle cure whether diet/weight loss, mental health, you name it. Majority of doctors are paid by the big pharmaceutical companies. They hear a few symptoms and throw a drug at you to “fix it”. And you think, “Great, I feel better!” 👍🏻 but WRONG 👎🏻 they aren’t treating the cause, only the symptoms. Be your own doctor, do your own research (and no WebMD doesn’t count) and go in educated and don’t assume doctors are the be all end all!!!! Why??? Because even the best doctors are human and miss things. If you know something is different in your body or not right, ask. You’re your own best advocate!

I recently starting helping a Pilates student of mine with their meals as they got placed on the same elimination diet I’ve done for years. I figured I would share some of the recipes I use that make me feel as though I don’t “miss out” on anything!


Chickpea & Zucchini Stew
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 large green zucchini, diced
- 1 (28-oz.) can whole peeled tomatoes, undrained
- 1 (15-oz.) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
- 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
- Hot rice, to serve


1) Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and zucchini. Cook, stirring frequently, until garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute. Add tomatoes, crushing slightly with the back of a wooden spoon.
2) Stir in chickpeas, salt and red pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce head to medium-low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened and stewlike in texture, 25-30 minutes. Remove from heat; garnish with parsley. Serve with hot rice.


Serves: 2
