Embrace Transition Visit our blog for inspiring stories and essays on transition and preparing for change. Founded by Jacinta Hin. Photography by Peter Gramberg. What is transition?

Throughout life we are always moving from one phase or state to another. The difference is called change, the road in between transition. Transitions are connection points, periods during which we are changing and preparing for something new. It is the space between what is or was, and what is going to be. Transitions are often deeply challenging. We might not recognize the signs that something ha

s started to shift, be resistant or lack the support and understanding of our environment. These signs can be subtle, playing out sub-consciously beneath the surface of conscious daily life, and denying us a sense of control. They also tend to come unannounced and without clearly defined objectives and goals. There may be little logic to what is happening. Not knowing what is in store can be frightening and so keep us in limbo, grasping at a reality already slipping away. Still, it's important to remember that these transitional periods play an important role in our ever-evolving lives. They support us in our growth and development, and offer the space to review who and where we are, and to make new choices. If we miss or ignore these moments of reflection and reorientation, personal change becomes more difficult and we risk staying stuck in a life that no longer serves us. We would also fall behind because the world around us would be changing. After all, change is the default nature of life. At some point we will have to go along with whatever it is that is moving. "If we embrace transition, we allow life to happen"

Next week we begin the last month of the year. Can you wind down enough to start reflecting on 2016 in preparation of the year to come? Schedule some self-time. Buy yourself a beautiful notebook or planner. What else can you think of?

When we’re angry with others, we are angry with ourselves. When we feel sad for another, we are connecting with our own sadness. Can you see how your feelings about something outside of you are actually a reflection of how you feel about yourself?

Between the different phases and stages in our life we spend time in transition. We have left but are yet to arrive. Past, present and future overlap. We hold on to what we want to let go of.

Living within the walls of what we know and believe, we remain the same; there is no movement, no change. Look to the other side of those walls, and the dynamics of life will shift, away from stale, repetitive thoughts and always looking at reality through the same lens.

This moment is not life waiting to happen, goals waiting to be achieved, words waiting to be spoken, connections waiting to be made, regrets waiting to evaporate, aliveness waiting to be felt, enlightenment waiting to be gained. No. Nothing is waiting. This is it. This moment is life.
