Most of us grew up exposed to media in which birthing women were screaming, cursing, and pushing so hard blood vessels were bursting. It’s a prevalent stereotype and one that often becomes deeply ingrained in us.
However you birth - quietly, loudly, chanting, moving, singing, screaming, laughing, crying - it’s perfect. But most of us have a lot of reclaiming and relearning to do at a cellular level, so cultural birth tropes don’t subconsciously influence our own birth experiences. Not all births are like that - as you can see in this video. It’s important that we see birth from many angles - not just what we see on screen in a culture deeply jaded about birth and in which birth is universally over-medicalized.
Additional ways to unpack internalized cultural beliefs include:
🌻 Writing out the images you’ve seen, and stories you’ve heard about birth from movies, family, friends, etc.
🌻 Describe in writing, what you believe birth could look and sound like
🌻 Get educated about labor and birth physiology, and what you can do to support it
🌻 Find care providers and a birthing place that best supports your sense of safety and comfort
🌻 Practice mindfulness techniques for labor (visualization, affirmations, hypnobirthing)
Where can you learn all this? There are so many wonderful books, and midwives, doulas, and childbirth educators. And you can join me at the #ideservebirthsupport FB Group at the link below where you can find all you need to experience birth in the most empowered, powerful, and pleasurable ways possible. However you birth. There’s also a downloadable PDF there for you to unpack the stories you are holding on to about birth, so that you can enter your pregnancy and birth with a blank slate.
And it’s all free - with love- thru jan 14th, 2021 - and then becomes an incredible new (always affordable!!!) membership program with community support - and real time with me!
