Join Right Thyme Nutrition this Friday April 22nd for a 90-minute virtual cooking experience benefitting the lifesaving mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Together we will discover the nutritional keynotes and traditional flavors of the Mediterranean Sea without having to leave your kitchen. Recipes include a Lemon Chicken Souvlaki and a vegetarian-friendly Cauliflower, Lentil, and Halloumi Salad that all experience levels can master!

$35/Household - All proceeds from this event will go directly to LLS and their 2022 Man & Woman of the Year campaign in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Join Right Thyme Nutrition on April 22nd for a 90-minute virtual cooking event benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - National Capital Area's Man & Woman of the Year campaign. Together we will discover the traditional flavors and nutritional keynotes of the Mediterranean Sea all while preparing a Lemon Chicken Souvlaki & Roasted Cauliflower, Halloumi, and Lentil Salad.

Tickets are $35/household with the option to "Add-On" additional donations, if desired. All proceeds generated from this event will directly benefit blood cancer advocacy and research through LLS!

Back by popular demand: Plant-based proteins!

Knowing where and how to get your protein can aid in muscle support, hormone coordination, and immune function. So where can we find it?

Both plant and animal products contain protein and are viable options when considering nourishment. Despite commonly held myths that plant-based eaters don’t get enough protein, research says otherwise. What we know is that eating an even amount of plant (or animal) based proteins throughout the day provides our body with adequate protein, all nine essential amino acids, in addition to, the benefits of other macro and micronutrient. Like protein and carbohydrates, our body needs dietary fat to work properly. Not only does fat serve as a major source of energy, but also helps our body absorb nutrients like vitamin A, E, D and K.

As you can see, each type of fat contributes the same about of “energy” or (kcals) per gram it is important to understand how each type of fat effects your cholesterol. Unlike trans & saturated fatty acids, unsaturated fats helps increase your bodies HDL cholesterol (aka happy cholesterol), which can help to improve your overall heart health. This is due to HDL’s job of absorbing cholesterol and delivering it to the liver where it is flushed from the body. On the other hand, trans and saturated fats increase LDL cholesterol (aka lousy cholesterol) whose job is to transport cholesterol throughout the body, including your arteries where plaque formation may occur.

Recently, Right Thyme Nutrition was given the opportunity to supported The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2021 Man and Woman of the Year campaign through a virtual cooking and nutrition event! This was such a rewarding event and we were so thankful to have been able to partner with a recognizable philanthropy like LLS. Although this was a first for us, it will surely not be our last! Thank you to all our two-legged and four-legged friends who joined from their kitchens across the states!
