I have difficulty appreciating myself sometimes. Especially outside of bodybuilding- which has been a large part of my last few years.

But my next few will not include the stage personally. And that type of reward and appreciation is satisfying to me. 🏆

However, I am relearning satisfaction and appreciation outside of that one aspect of my life.

The rest of the year is going to fly by. So I am trying to take time to reflect on my year. I’ll be hitting a milestone in a few months, but to me, it is just another year. I do not mean this in a bad way at all.

I am in the midst of working on a dream I’ve had for years.

They’re probably going to be the most difficult and challenging years of my life. It can be easy to get engulfed in the stress. Sometimes it honestly feels dreadful.

But these years spent will pay off. And while I am looking ahead to that day, I can’t forget to do my best in appreciating my life right now too.

Because it is great. It is full.
Because it is something I was not sure if I could or would ever do.
Because I have great support in my life. , friends, new friends, family, community.

I’ll still be training, bodybuilding if you will. These years will also be incredibly important for that. Just because you have not plans for a show or the stage, does not mean you are not a bodybuilder anymore.

Although I am learning better appreciation for the other aspects of my life, competing and the sport are a true passion of mine. And meeting so many new people, I am understanding that this is really a part of who I am.

A different transformation Tuesday - 1 week out from Mr.America last year versus today.

A true highlight of my rookie career. My second pro show, 3rd place & 6 overall. I’ll never ever forget it .america_official

I’m 30+ lbs heavier.

I’m living well, eating good, and lifting heavy. This is the spot for me right now til I can really fend with the heavy hitters.

I’m pretty happy with my off season esp knowing I have to stay here for some years. Might as well enjoy it and be juicy.

Long overdue: Vancouver Trip!

What a beautiful place. Nothing like it! I’m so grateful for all the people in this photo. In the last year they have really been great friends and blessings.

Here’s a little recap!
1) we hiked to Elfin Lakes- longest hike I’ve ever done- 14.2 miles! So beautiful with the best camping site I’ve ever seen. A good warmup before we coke back for Panorama Ridge. 😜

2) we biked the sea wall 🚲 Stopped for plenty of food including Japadog!

3) one of my faves : Whistler- where we zip lined one of the longest ziplines in North America at 1.2 miles reaching speeds up to 95-100
Mph. Couldn’t even turn my head lol.

4) Richmond Nightmarket for fun & games, plus more good food!

Thanks so much to and for being awesome guides and hosts!

I’m a little tea pot, *short & stout* 🫖

Emphasis on the short & stout. A follow up to “off season full swing” post.

Thing is, I last competed in October 2022 & I feel like I’m in full swing *now.

Healthy, regular, eating well, weight is well maintained / managed, menstrual cycle is regular, strong & getting stronger.

A friendly reminder that recovery from prep, especially a longer prep (6-8 months, in my case) takes a good deal of time to recover from fully.

No, that doesn’t mean just reaching your off season weight- that will likely come before other measures like hormones get a chance to normalize, post show.

A little reflection: My first semester of med school was a success. And that feels good. It was a little rough…one of the most difficult things to conquer and being a freshmen newbie to this game of med school, had to get knocked around a bit. It can be an ass kicking. It’s just getting started 🥲 and will only become more challenging but now I know and I learned that this is truly where I meant to be. 👩🏻‍⚕️🤍

& I have moved to a state that was on our list for the future, probably sooner than we thought but all worth a new opportunity for him, plus much shorter trip ✈️ to Grenada for me ☺️

And ofc, last photos- we’ll never stop bodybuilding 😛

Off season composition : I’ve been pretty steady around 142-148.

I’m hanging on to a little bit of detail this off season which I will take!

I’m eating a good amount of foods. I’ve never been one to be able to eat a TON but I’m eating well 🤰 🍣 🍿 🍟🍔🍩🍬🍫🍪

More importantly- I finished my first semester of medical school. I was still able to lift 3-4 days a week. Sometimes 5. I still track my food & diet. I hit 170 G protein daily.

Once you make it your lifestyle, it’s detrimental to stray away from it.

I noticed it I ever tried to exchange gym time for study time, aka skip the gym to study more- my productivity while studying was far worse.

I noticed the same for when I had not made time to eat and tried to hold off to eat later on, my studying (and training) also suffered.

I know for a big fact I will not be competing anytime soon. For many reasons:

Honestly I’m enjoying supporting my own athletes, teammates, and clients.

School showed me there is not much room for voluntary brain fog.

I also competed last year, dieting for 8 months, competed in 4 shows. Placed well at Mr.America and Im so satisfied with that. and I used to talk about how after dieting that hard and long, you need a break not just physically but I don’t even feel like cutting.

I’m enjoying the food and still finding my groove with school schedules changing often as well as a move to Florida last week.

Of course I’d rather be shredded and ripped, but it’s a commitment to get there and achieve- and Im genuinely in no rush to go back there.

Personally, this is a sign of growth for me. Less of a struggle accepting my off season body. Embracing it much more.

And I really pushed it harder last year in prep.

That also showed me just how much I have to improve for next time. I pushed hard and I can see how much bigger, leaner, and harder I need to get despite my efforts. And that’s just a matter of time & continued effort- training & dieting.

🥂Cheers to progress🦵🏽🎉

4 years of eating and lifting. A cycle of Cutting, bulking & growing, caloric deficit, surplus, maintenance.

Not every day is perfect. Not every week or every season is perfect or ideal.

When you just decide to do it. To stick with it- progress happens.

I know that not every person, not even 90% of my clients want the extremes@of bodybuilding. Bodybuilding or not- the consistency is a must. If you want to see visual changes in your body, you have to be consistent.

Everyone’s idea of what fit or healthy looks like is different. Everyone’s idea if “goals” varies.

And guess what- everyone’s personal journey and level of “fitness” will vary.

Not everyone carries the same amount of muscle or body fat naturally. There are some aspects like genetics that you cannot over come. But there is PLENTY you can over come. You can control the other aspects. You can literally build your body.

You may not be able to build your body to look like your favorite fitfluencer or model- due to hone structure and again, genetics. But you CAN chase after your own version of it. What that would look like on YOU. With what you were given and have to work with.

Someone asked me if it is true that women lose their periods while competing and I chuckled: yes that’s absolutely true.

That’s also why we have to gain at *least*10-15 pounds post show. Doesn’t need yo be rapid but the point is that this is not sustainable.

I wouldn’t say I look particularly fit to have children in this photo.

Don’t get me wrong- I prefer this look. I would rather not deal with having a period and it’s sort of a nice convenience.

BUT I know that is not healthy, it’s not sustainable, and even if I like being lean- my biology, my body- does not.

There’s a healthy balance between stage weight and off season weight. No need to get too heavy as that also has its side effects.

Your post season plan, post show plan- is important. You can’t quite “relax” yet even though the pressure is off. Dieting cannot be thrown to the way side. A strategy to gain weight is not quite recognized and acknowledged as much as it should be.

I am off to medical school in about 10 days! Of course, being a professional bodybuilder, bodybuilding is a large part of my identity. As I meet new people, I know they will learn that quickly.

However, being in my off season, some insecurities arise. Thinking that people will think I don’t look the part. Thinking others will comment about my physique or think I am fraudulent. Even though, nobody is saying that and anybody who is, is not someone I want in my corner.

As a coach, being in my off season, I want to look the part of a pro bodybuilder all the time. At the same time- I understand that is NOT part of the deal.

Being a natural athlete, we still look somewhat ordinary in clothes, shredded or not. It is not sustainable to be stage lean & if anyone should understand that, doctors would.

I remind myself that I am not going to medical school to be a bodybuilder. Bodybuilding will take a bit of a back seat but I am not leaving it behind by any means. I know the gym, coaching, and bodybuilding will be my reprieve during this time.

I NEED time off. Stepping on stage next to the big kids, the seasoned pros this year- I am reminded that I need to grow. What better distraction than medical school? 😅

I know this dialogue is very specific to me. But* to other bodybuilders, others who love this like I do, love the shreds, being on stage, etc the off season’s the focus is less on appearance, more on improving. The visual may not be as pleasing as getting lean but if we have other things on our plates, other focuses in our lives, it will make the process easier.

The hard work, happens now. With added bodyfat. When it is less rewarding.

Stage lean is impractical. Chronic competing & not spending optimal time at a healthy body weight or fat percentage is a great way to give yourself health problems & hormonal issues.

Even though the visual result of off season or building season is not equivalent to the sweet shreds, the result of having energy, lifting heavier, feeling strong, feeling human, being healthy- is certainly rewarding.
