When it comes to creating a transformation of your body, how you feel, and your performance, as someone 40 and over, you have to make sure that your health is optimized at a foundational level: your hormones, your gut, must be optimized. In order to do so, you need to find out specifically whats going on with you through specific testing. Because what one persons hormone imbalance, gut status, health status looks like, is likely very different from yours, and therefore will require a different protocol or plan to optimize.
Consistency over perfection: My training was far from perfect. Thats life. But what it was, was consistent, day in and day out…AF!!! I didn’t over think things, there were days that I didn’t feel great, my body didn’t perform as I expected, the numbers didn’t make sense….out body is a dynamic complicated, but yet beautiful machine.
It’s the daily habits and trusting the work you just “DO” day to day that will “all of a sudden” show up in a massive transformation.
Stop looking for the shiny objects, the magic workouts and start looking within to how can you get your mind right and start to love the daily process.
Sleep and recovery:
We live in such a hustle culture….but at some point you have to put your foot down, set your boundaries and focus on your recovery and sleep, or you will eventually get sick, injured, burnt out, and your performance and body (because you can’t outsmart stress and cortisol) will suffer.
And finally alcohol.
Like the hustle culture, we live in a culture where drinking all the time, for everything, for every celebration, and “one glass a night is good for you” is all around us. Yet for our heath, recovery, performance, weight-loss, sleep, MIND, especially when you are over 40 navigating hormone changes…it can make it or break it. When I cut down my drinking to really only on very special occasions and stopped drinking during the week (the glass of wine with dinner), it was game changing. My sleep, my mood, my fat loss and body composition, no more snoozing through my alarm, my energy, my mental focus….
Its all a journey, and we each have our own version of it, but if you truly want a transformation and if you want to love your body, and how you feel, you’ve got to change the things you do daily. You can’t change without change :) AND you don’t have to do it alone either ;)
