🔷1 Tbsp or single serving container of flavored creamer has ~5 grams of carbs (all from sugar)

🔷1 teaspoon or packet of sugar has 4 grams of carbs

🔷 So if you add 2 creamers and 2 sugars to your coffee (as do many of Americans), that’s 18 gram of carbs just in your coffee!! 😱

👉Next time you make your coffee, consider adding unsweetened creamer or heavy cream with a dash of LIQUID carb-free sweetener!

What’s the healthier breakfast for my weight? 🤔

Turns out those steel cut oats and whole grains aren’t as great for us as we thought‼️

👉When you eat carbs (like oats) you produce insulin - a hormone that signals your body to store fat. The sugars from the “healthy” oats go from your bloodstream into your fat cells and get locked there by insulin where it can’t be used right away (because insulin levels stay high even after the sugar is safely out of your bloodstream).

👉Ever wonder why you get lethargic and hungry again 1-2 hours after eating carbs? This is why.

Turns out those “healthy” baked cheese puffs in my pantry are actually poison...😱

Weight gain is often caused by carbohydrate metabolism and insulin (a hormone).

You get hungry, eat carbs, and insulin levels rise to help get that sugar out of your bloodstream and into your cells.

But insulin levels stay elevated for a long time - even after all sugar is out of the bloodstream.

What does that mean? It means you feel hungry again (maybe even “hangry” 😞😡), despite the fact that you JUST ate that bowl of cereal or that piece of whole grain bread 🍞(and the extra fiber in your sprouted whole wheat super grain toast is not going to help). Your body can’t use the fuel you just packed into your cells because insulin is still lurking in your bloodstream👎🏻👎🏻

So you keep eating and eating...a viscous cycle that leads to weight gain you can’t control.

Looking for something hearty (and low carb) to cook this weekend? We've got something for you! 👏🙌 Asparagus is in season - check out this recipe for Creamy Chicken Asparagus Casserole. Please let us know what you think in the comments!

Creamy Chicken and Asparagus Casserole
Yield: 6 servings
Nutrition: 4 gram net carbs per serving

Ingredients:
• 4 tbsp butter
• 1 ½ lb chicken thigh, boneless skinless, cut into 1-2" pieces
• 1 lb asparagus, cut into 1-2" pieces and steamed
• 1/4 cup onion, diced
• 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
• 1/2 cup chicken broth
• 3/4 cup heavy cream
• 1 tsp kosher salt
• 1/2 tsp pepper
• 1/2 tsp dried thyme
• 1/4 cup mayonnaise (preferably avocado mayo)
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
• 1 ½ cup gouda or swiss, shredded (reserve 1/4 cup to top)
• 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded (reserve 1/4 cup to top)

Instructions:
• Preheat oven to 375°. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat.
• Add chicken to the pan and cook for 6 minutes, turning as it begins to brown.
• Remove chicken and place in a casserole dish. Top with the steamed asparagus. Cover to keep warm.
• Add onions and mushrooms to the skillet. Sautee until tender.
• Reduce heat to medium and add chicken broth, cream, salt, pepper, thyme, mustard, mayonnaise, and lemon juice.
• Whisk together and bring to a simmer. Cook until sauce is reduced and starts to thicken (8 to 10 minutes). Stir frequently. (Optional: stir in xanthan gum to further thicken sauce if needed).
• Pour the mixture over the casserole. Stir in cheese.
• Sprinkle the top with the remaining cheeses. Bake for 30 minutes until bubbly and brown on top.
