I started Kev's Gym in March 2014 with a goal to motivate and inspire people from all walks of life (male, female, young, and old) to get in great shape and to ultimately live more fulfilling and vibrant lives. To accomplish this goal, I did in-home personal training and yoga sessions, along with outdoor fitness classes. I also gave back to the community by volunteering to teach chair yoga and chair fitness classes at retirement homes to assist the elderly in the Northern, VA area. Since then, the underlying goal has remained the same, but the approach has evolved. During my first few years in the fitness industry, I discovered a couple problems/opportunities that needed to be addressed. First, I found that the elderly population was an under-served market, that was growing in size, and demanded regular chair yoga/fitness classes taught by optimistic and uplifting fitness professionals. Second, from the fitness professional side of the spectrum, personal trainers and yoga instructors were experts in their fields, but needed assistance on the business side of things including: marketing, scheduling, invoicing, etc. By connecting top-tier fitness professionals to the elderly population, and removing the administrative business burden from fitness professionals, Kev's Gym adds great value to all parties involved, while advancing our mission on a much larger scale!Since inception, Kev's Gym has accomplished some amazing things, and we're just getting started! I did this workout from the beach today, and it was a tough one, especially with Baxter on your back! Knocked it out in 45min 10sec.

Welcome to the Kev's Gym team, Slava!

Slava Kolpakov, originally from Siberia, Russia, is a certified yoga therapist, a marathon runner, Thai massage teacher, and a yoga philosophy teacher in the Vedanta tradition. Slava has been a yoga teacher since 2002, completing several Integral Yoga certifications, and the 750-hour Structural Yoga Therapy training in 2005. He started teaching Hatha Yoga at the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City in 2002, under the guidance of the late Yoga Master Swami Satchidananda. Since then, Slava has taught yoga, the Yoga Sutras, and Vedanta philosophy at multiple Yoga Teacher Trainings in Boston, MA, and San Diego, CA. In 2017, he wrote a book of inspiring stories and practical applications of Yogic principles: Threads of Light (available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Threads-Light-Tapestry-Slava-Kolpakov/dp/1944037586)

In addition to teaching yoga, Slava has been a Thai Massage therapist since 2004, and has taught Thai Massage since 2009. He had owned two sports massage centers in Boston for 11 years, certified hundreds of massage therapists around the country in the art of Thai massage, and has worked with thousands of professional and recreational athletes to treat and prevent athletic injuries. Slava is excited to be part of Kev’s Gym and offer Chair Yoga to seniors. Slava joined the Kev’s Gym team in May of 2020 and serves our clients in San Diego, CA.

Welcome to the Kev's Gym team, Brian!

Brian discovered the healing benefits of yoga while studying music at Berklee College of Music in 2009. He was looking for relief from repetitive stress and tension that had built up from years of instrumental practice, because it was affecting his ability to play musical instruments. Yoga became instrumental in his healing process because he was successfully able to stop the progressive nerve damage in his arms and hands. After college, he realized his deeper commitment in life was to share his healing experience from yoga, and help others overcome their pain. In 2011, Brian attended a 9 week, full-immersion teacher training course at Bikram’s College of India in LA. Since then, he has been a full-time yoga instructor helping thousands of people achieve a new freedom in their body, and a new peace of mind. Yoga is a true natural medicine, and Brian looks forward to sharing it with you! Brian joined the Kev’s Gym team in May of 2020 and serves our clients in Boston, MA.

Dr. Nanette Tummers has been inspired to teach, study, present, research and practice yoga for over 20 years especially for the Active Aging community. She is passionate about the gifts of yoga and has served many populations including the recovery community, at risk adolescents, Veterans and adults. Nanette has a doctorate in Kinesiology and Health Promotion and is Professor Emeritus at Eastern Connecticut State University.

She is a holistic stress management instructor and an expert in health behavior change and mindfulness. She has authored: Teaching Yoga for Life. Preparing Children and Teens for Healthy, Balanced Living; Teaching Stress Management; Activities for Children and Young Adults; Stress Management. A Wellness Approach and Healthy Choices for Your Health, Wellness and Overall Happiness. Nanette volunteers at Frederick Animal Shelter; Frederick 4H Therapeutic Riding Program; and Days End Horse Rescue Farm.

The extensive life enhancing benefits of yoga has and continues to motivate her own journey and she is honored to teach Chair Yoga! Nanette joined the Kev’s Gym team in March of 2020 and serves our clients in Frederick, MD.

A company is only as good as its employees.. and man I have to say Kevs Gym is a success because of Julia Boghean!

Together we have been able to grow our chair yoga business from 0 to about 30 new clients in a relatively short period of time! Her class is second to none, and the feedback I get from clients is that they want more, more, more of Julia, Julia, Julia!

Let's keep it up Jules, you're doing great. Many more clients to come, and new trainers to train!

Are you interested in teaching yoga and chair fitness classes for seniors in the Fairfax, VA area?

In addition to personal training, Kev's Gym provides chair yoga and exercise classes to elderly people living at retirement homes, assisted living facilities, senior centers, and health and rehab facilities in the Northern, VA area. We currently have 4 trainers on our team and are looking to expand the business to service more of the Northern, VA area and are in need of an instructor to help teach some classes. Merry Christmas and Happy new year to all! Over the past 3-6 months we have added a new service offering at Kev's Gym.. bringing fitness and yoga to the elderly in the Northern, VA area. We had about 2 clients over the summer, but with some hard sales work and great yoga classes we have grown the business to over 20 clients! I wanted to give a shout out to my business partner, Iuliana Boghean! She is an invaluable asset to the team and without her help, we would still be at 2 clients! Merry Christmas Jules, and I'm looking forward to winning over the next 20+ clients with your help.

Come on out to this FREE outdoor full-body circuit workout in Reston Town Center on 7/13/19 from 7:30AM to 9AM. We will be targeting: calfs, hamstrings, glutes, quads, abs/core, chest, and triceps, and will also incorporate cardio in the mix.

The class is intended for all ages and experience levels (I will provide modifications to each exercise (easy vs. medium vs. hard) so that everyone can get a workout best for them.

These are great workouts to start your day off with and you'll feel like a million bucks when you are done with it.

Location: Please meet in the park in Reston Town Center just in front of Barcelona and CVS.

This class is FREE! Nothing to lose, except those love handles ;)

Make sure to bring a mat, and water!

Solid work to all of those who came out to my yoga class this morning! If you missed this class.. no worries, we will have more classes throughout the summer.

My goal is to have a class every Saturday at 8 a.m. in Reston Town Center. Classes will be anything from yoga to high intensity interval training cardio, and strength training, etc. And they are 100% FREE..

Nothing to lose except some extra weight!

Happy Halloween! I have a good circuit workout for all you ghosts and goblins out there.. 5 rounds of 5 exercises each 1 minute long (i.e. each round is 5 minutes). No breaks until after each round (2 minutes max). I did this workout after running the Marine Corps Marathon, so no excuses!

Need a morning jolt before work? Try this workout.. I do it, or a modification of it, every morning. It takes about 20 minutes and gets you started off on the right foot every day..

5 sets of 20 reps for pushups, pullups, and abs- using sliding disks..

Round 1:
Pushups- 20 wide grip perfect push-ups (or without if you don't have them)
Pullups- 20 chin-ups
Abs: 20 pikes with sliding disks

Round 2:
Push-ups: 20- military push-ups or close grip, no rotation, elbows touch your sides not flair out
Pullups- 20- wide grip
Abs: 60 mountain climbers with sliding disks.. each knee in counts as one

Round 3:
Pullups: 20- close grip palms facing towards eachother
Push-ups: 20 slidy push-ups.. use one sliding disk and alternate arm every five. Do a push-up and as you go down slide one arm out.
Abs: 20- both knees into chest at same time while holding plank/push-up position.

Round 4:
Pullups: 20- wide grip palms facing each other
Push-ups: 20- normal shoulder width grip, with rotation, 4 second eccentric 1 second concentric- (go down slow for 4 seconds and up fast in one second)
Abs: 20 ab slides Pike

Round 5:
Pullups: Google P90X corn-cob pullups. Do 20 of them.
Push-ups: 20 regular pushups with 3 second pulse at the bottom
Abs: two feet on two slides, in plank, bring right knee to right elbow, left knee to left elbow, do 20!

Change up the numbers to complete in 20 minutes or less.

Fall into fitness! Fall is here and now is time to take advantage of the great outdoors. Gone is the heat and humidity, and we now have cool crisp air that is fantastic for your training. Here are some workout ideas ranging from beginner to more advanced for the fall..

Walking- it's my favorite time of year to go for a walk. Enjoy the leaves crunching below your feet, maybe do some apple picking, and hunt for that ideal pumpkin.

Hiking- go out to the Shenandoah and get immersed in nature's beauty. If you haven't done so already check out Old Rag and or Big Schloss. Great hikes with phenomenal views. Hiking is great because it works multiple muscle groups, increases your strength, and cardiovascular endurance.

Running- join me in running the Marine corps marathon this year! Or something a little easier like a 5k, Turkey trot, etc. Gotta love running. It's a great workout, and gives you the ability to almost meditate and clear your head in this busy and chaotic life!

Splitting wood, cutting down trees- this one is for the lumberjacks out there. As Henry Ford once said.. "chop your own wood and it will warm you twice." Splitting wood is a great full body workout: legs, back, abs, and arms. I use a maul that I ordered on Amazon to split wood that I get for free on Nextdoor.com when people cut down their trees. Now is the time to get all the splitting done, so that when winter rolls around you can keep your home nice and warm! Go get em' you lumberjack.

Trying to lose that stubborn belly fat? Training for a race (5k, marathon)? Maybe you just need someone to keep you accountable and push you through a killer workout 2-3x per week?

Getting healthy requires on-going proper nutrition and a disciplined training routine. My job is not only to workout with you, but to motivate and instill a level of discipline and accountability so that you can establish healthy habits and maintain them in perpetuity.

It isn't easy, but it pays dividends BIG TIME and it sure is fun. I can't think of anything better!
