2019 Patty Denman Krahling Memorial Cancer Benefit
Sorry for the delay, the donations were still coming in so I extended the collections for 1 more day.

Plan exercise into your day. Set aside a specific time in your schedule to exercise and put it in your planner. Piece your workout together. You don’t need to get all your exercise at one time. Ten minutes morning, noon, and night can give much of the same benefit as 30 minutes all at once.

Turn off the TV, computer, and smart phone. Cutting back on screen time is a great way to curb your “sit time.” Move around instead, by visiting the gym or even cleaning the house.

Keep it brisk. When you walk, make it brisk, since this may help control weight better than walking at a leisurely pace. What is brisk enough? Walk as though you are meeting someone for lunch and you are a little late.
Eat Fat to Avoid Fat

If you’re working on getting leaner, don’t cut out good, healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids. Lack of these nutrients can negatively impact the speed (and how) you age. To keep feeling and looking younger, incorporate more oily fish, walnuts, and flax seeds into your diet, which also help the skin stay supple and wrinkle-free. Omega-3s also help boost brain health and keep the heart in good shape.

Limit Processed Foods
You may have to eat a frozen meal now and then, but don’t make it a habit. Certain packaged foods can be loaded with sodium and other preservatives. The FDA suggests sticking to no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day—that’s one teaspoon of salt. A typical frozen entrée can easily pack more than 30% of your sodium intake for the day, so check the label before plopping one in your grocery basket.

Balance Your Gut
One way to boost good gut bacteria and keep things running smoothly: take a daily probiotic supplement. Probiotics help with digestion, and they’re good for your immunity, Fixing the balance of good bacteria in the gut can even improve your mood. A lot of our serotonin is actually produced in the gut, so there’s a big connection between what’s happening in the gut and how we feel.” Add protein, probiotics, and thickness to smoothies with just one cup of Greek yogurt.🍓🍓

So, today we want to talk a little about exercise, specifically boxing. Boxing is a great physical sport you don't necessarily have to want to become a professional boxer to reap the rewards of light boxing skills. It burns lots of calories, increases your stamina, lowers your blood pressure, increases your hand/eye coordination, increases your dexterity and also it allows you to build self-confidence. So light boxing and conditioning overall is just a great thing.

There are several different types of punching bags, I posted a little video of my promotion of a product to see what you think. It's even great for helping several different types off illnesses, including Parkinson's.

There are several national programs that incorporate boxing regimens to arrest the disease. I know someone who has been working with three people who suffer from Parkinson's. One individual who has been doing two hours of personal Qigong training and doing his own personal programs has made tremendous recovery. Upon his last visit to his neurologist she said had she not known from previous examination about his Parkinson's that she wouldn't have given him the diagnosis today.

FRIDAY'S HEALTH TIPS OF THE WEEK:

Strive for at least 150 minutes of exercise per week. Break it down to 40
minutes 4 days a week, 30 minutes 5 days a week, or however you’d like!

Eat foods that are closest to their natural state as possible. Eat whole, fresh foods in a rainbow of colors.

Don’t DIET. Reverse the letters in the word and EDIT what you eat. Make it a lifestyle change toward healthier foods, not a deprivation plan.

Find different ways to measure success other than stepping on the scale. Instead, pay attention to how you feel after you’ve been working out consistently.

Make a list of positive affirmations that work for you. Here’s a few to get you started: I love to exercise. I want to live a healthy life. I am getting more fit each day.

Drink caffeinated tea as an afternoon pick-me-up or decaf tea as a way to wind down at night. There are so many health benefits to tea including: lowering blood pressure, reducing wrinkles, aiding in weight loss and more.

Eat more greens!! Kale, spinach, broccoli, swiss chard or collard greens. Greens are full of fiber, vitamins and minerals to protect you against disease.

Try Tai Chi it can help you feel centered. It stretches and strengthens your body, improves your breathing and awareness, and empowers your mind. Yoga is a good one as well, find a form or posture (or two!) of movement you enjoy. It’s easier to do and stick to things we enjoy.
