All Good Things Come to an End – Advanced Worcester Bids Farewell to Dr Ernst F. Laubscher

It was with heavy hearts that the team at Advanced Worcester performed their final procedures with Dr Ernst F. Laubscher (Orthopaedic Surgeon) before his retirement.

Having been part of Advanced Worcester since the day it opened its doors, Dr Laubscher has played an integral role in the hospital's journey and success. As he embarks on a well-deserved retirement, we reflect on the remarkable impact he has made throughout his career.

An extraordinary surgeon and a truly valued colleague, Dr Laubscher has left a lasting mark not only on the community he served, but also on the hearts of our staff. As a symbol of their gratitude and appreciation, the team signed and presented him with a walking stick, wishing him every happiness and success in this new chapter of life.

Advanced Harbour Bay Welcomes Dr Jan Adlam | Gynaecologist & Urogynaecologist

Dr Jan Adlam provides specialist gynaecological and urogynaecological care for women at every stage of life.

From Harbour Bay to Istanbul!

We’re proud to share that Dr Gary Kroukamp, ENT specialist at Advanced Harbour Bay Private Day Hospital, recently attended an International Otorhinolaryngology Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, where he shared his expertise on surfer’s ear and the specialised procedure he performs at Advanced Harbour Bay Private Day Hospital.

Surfer’s Ear is a condition commonly seen in surfers, swimmers and other water-sport enthusiasts. Repeated exposure to cold water and wind can cause abnormal bony growths inside the ear canal, gradually narrowing the passage. This can lead to blocked ears, trapped water, recurrent infections and, in more advanced cases, hearing difficulties.

Dr Kroukamp uses minimal access, keyhole approach by operating down the ear canal, with no external cuts. The ear canal skin is parted where it overlies the bony growths and the excess bone is carefully sculpted away using a fine 1mm osteotome (chisel). Hence the name for this technique being the chisel method.
Using this method, the risks of infection, hearing loss and tinnitus are mitigated and surfers can return to water sport after 2-3 weeks. Both ears can be done at the same time if so desired.

Know your normal. Be familiar with how your breasts look and feel, and speak to your doctor if you notice a change that is unusual for you.

Regular check-ups and appropriate screening are important parts of looking after your breast health.
