How many women have been taught to swallow their symptoms and carry on?
In many cultures, women are praised for being the ones who give more, endure more and ask for less. We celebrate self-sacrifice so much that exhaustion can become a badge of honour.
The “I’ll handle it” woman.
The “everyone comes before me” woman.
The “I’m fine” woman.
But being strong shouldn't mean suffering in silence.
We don't always value mental health the way we should. And when hormonal changes are added to the picture, from menstruation and pregnancy to postpartum, perimenopause and menopause, women can be left feeling like they're difficult, dramatic or simply not coping.
You are not difficult.
You are not asking for too much.
Your mental health matters.
This World Mental Health Day, let's stop glorifying women's exhaustion and start making space for women to be heard, supported and cared for.
