Get them off it.
I know that sounds counterintuitive.
But your client’s Pilates practice shouldn’t begin and end with the carriage.
Mat gives you an entirely different environment in which to explore movement.
No springs.
No carriage.
No straps.
No equipment doing part of the work.
Just the person, gravity, the floor and their ability to organise themselves.
And that can be incredibly useful.
You can take concepts you’ve explored on the Reformer and ask:
Can they find this without the equipment?
Can they control it?
Can they feel it?
Can they transfer what they’ve learned?
Can they use it somewhere completely different?
That’s where having both Mat and Reformer in your teaching toolbox becomes so powerful.
You’re no longer just choosing an exercise.
You’re choosing the best tool for what you’re trying to teach.
And that is a much more interesting way to teach Pilates.
Our Balanced Body Mat courses are coming up.
If you’re a Reformer instructor who hasn’t yet trained in Mat, or if you want to train in mat, we would love to hear from you!
DM me “MAT” for the details.
