Your body was designed to heal itself. ✨
But healing doesn’t happen when you’re constantly “on.”

Intermittent fasting taught us that…
🍽️ repair happens when you give your body a pause.

Now science shows us the same is true for oxygen. 🌬️
A short pause in breath — just 60–90 seconds —
shifts your body into deep repair:
🩸 More red blood cells
🧠 Stem cell activation
💓 Stronger heart + vessels
🫁 Efficient lungs

And here’s the best part:
You don’t need clinics or machines.
Just music, rhythm, and your own breath.

I’ve designed breathing exercises to gently guide you into hypoxia (not many people can hold their breath long enough without any prep)

Ready to experience it for yourself?
Comment “APP” below and I’ll send you a link to download the app and experience for yourself.

In the app you’ll find guided exercises that takes you through all 3 stages:
Preparation
Intermittent hypoxia
Recovery

All you need to do is just press play

Have you ever wondered what happens in your brain when you do SOMA breathwork? Let us explain. 🧠✨

In a pilot study led by neuroscientist Dr. Jeff Tarrant, participants completed a 23-minute SOMA Breath practice while their brain activity was measured using EEG.

What they found was some fascinating changes.

🌬️ Across the brain, activity in several brainwave bands decreased after the session, with some of the strongest changes seen in alpha activity, dropping by nearly 30% in certain areas.

👉One of the most interesting changes happened in the Default Mode Network, the network involved in our internal narrative and our sense of self. Activity in this network decreased, including in the Posterior Cingulate Cortex, a key hub of the DMN.

At the same time, theta activity increased in this region. Theta is commonly associated with memory, creativity, subconscious processing and receptive, hypnosis-like states.

They also found increased gamma activity in the insula, a brain region involved in present-moment awareness and our ability to experience emotions within the body.

And participants didn’t just show changes in brain activity. They said they felt
:
✨ Increased calmness
✨ Increased happiness
✨ Greater feelings of unity
✨ Spiritual experiences
✨ Changes in meaning
✨ Decreased tension, fatigue and confusion

Interestingly, some of the brainwave patterns and subjective experiences observed showed similarities to patterns reported in previous psychedelic research.

Your breath isn’t only changing how you feel.
As you continue practicing, it is changing what is happening in your brain while you feel it.

Inflammation isn’t only about injury or illness.
Very often, it’s about how well your body can adapt to stress.

👉One of the most powerful (and under-discussed) ways the body learns to regulate inflammation is through controlled, short-term stress — not more comfort, not more avoidance.

✨This is where intermittent hypoxia comes in.

👉When you hold your breath gently on the exhale for around 20–40 seconds, blood oxygen levels drop briefly and safely.

✨This signals the body to activate adaptive pathways that help regulate immune function and inflammatory signaling.

📄Research shows that controlled intermittent hypoxia can:
• Lower pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α
• Increase antioxidant enzyme activity
• Improve mitochondrial efficiency
• Strengthen cellular stress resilience over time

👉This is known as a hormetic response — a small, intentional challenge that trains the body to become more efficient, resilient, and regulated.

Instead of staying stuck in chronic low-grade inflammation, the body learns how to recover faster and respond better.

🌬Exhale breath holds are not done randomly or aggressively.

They’re layered into rhythmic breathing cycles that prepare the nervous system first, then introduce short breath holds to create controlled intermittent hypoxia.

The goal is not to push.
The goal is to adapt.

Practiced consistently, this trains your system to:
• Regulate inflammation more effectively
• Improve recovery
• Build stress resilience without overwhelm

👉Follow SOMA Breath | Breathwork, Training & Retreats for more science-backed insights into breath, nervous system regulation, and resilience.

🌬 Extending your exhale can help activate vagal pathways and shift your body toward a more parasympathetic, recovery-focused state.

Your heart rate can begin to slow.
Your nervous system settles.
Your body gets the signal that it is safe to come out of high alert.

You may not realise it, but when you are stressed, your breathing can become faster, shallower and more chest-dominant, which can reinforce feelings of activation.

When you intentionally slow your breathing and extend the exhale, you begin shifting that pattern.

Research shows that slow breathing with a longer exhalation can support vagal activity, heart rate variability and parasympathetic regulation, all of which are associated with better recovery from stress.

Breathing out slowly and rhythmically trains your system to become more familiar with returning to a calmer state.

👉 Here is something you can try right now:

✨ Breathe in for a count of 4.
✨ Exhale for a count of 8, or as long as feels comfortable.
✨ Repeat this rhythm for 20 rounds and notice how your mind and body shift.

Want to go deeper?

🌬 Try the Back to Calm track by SOMA Breath Master Instructor & Trainer in the SOMA Breath app for a guided 12-minute practice using extended exhalation to help you slow down, unwind and return to a calmer state.

Your body already carries more wisdom than most people have been taught to trust.

You were born with an inner pharmacy. A built in intelligence that knows how to regulate, restore, protect, and support your healing in ways most people never learn about.

And one of the most powerful ways to access it is through your breath.

Your breath is not just air moving in and out of your lungs. It is the doorway to the rhythms of your body. Your nervous system. Your energy. Your circulation. Your resilience. Your capacity to come back into balance.

But modern culture has conditioned so many of us to believe that healing only comes from outside of us. That every symptom needs a product. Every discomfort needs a pill. Every imbalance needs something external.

Meanwhile, ancient breath masters understood something very different.

They knew that the breath can change the chemistry of the body. That it can influence how you feel, how you function, and how you heal.

That is what we want you to remember.

Your body is not broken.
Your body is intelligent.
And your breath is one of the keys.

When you learn how to use it properly, you begin to unlock what has been within you all along.

Go to the SOMA Breath app to explore guided practices that help you activate your inner pharmacy and experience it for yourself.

👉This is why I will always continue telling you to start practicing breath holds on the exhale.

Not because it’s trendy or it’s extreme.

🌟But because it taps into one of the most fundamental adaptation mechanisms in human biology: intermittent hypoxia.

When you hold the breath after an exhale, oxygen levels drop slightly and carbon dioxide rises. This isn’t dangerous when done correctly. It’s information. The body reads this signal and responds by becoming more efficient rather than more stressed.

At a cellular level, intermittent hypoxia activates adaptive pathways that improve how oxygen is transported, released, and used. It supports mitochondrial efficiency, stimulates erythropoietin, and encourages the body to do more with less oxygen instead of constantly demanding more.

But the real change happens in the nervous system.

Most people react to discomfort with panic. The breath speeds up, the sympathetic nervous system takes over, and inflammation, fatigue, and dysregulation follow.

Exhale breath holds interrupt that pattern. They teach the nervous system to stay regulated while oxygen drops and CO₂ rises. This is the exact opposite of how we’re conditioned to respond.

Over time, this rewires your stress response. The body learns that a lack of immediate comfort does not equal danger. That lesson alone changes how you respond to pressure, inflammation, emotional triggers, and fatigue in daily life.

This is why intermittent hypoxia isn’t about pushing limits.

It’s about restoring resilience.
You’re not forcing the body to heal.

You’re reminding it how adaptation works.

👉 I even created a simple 6-minute track to help you get started and guide you through this practice every day. Just 6 minutes a day.
