Good morning to everyone except those who don’t take mental health seriously 🫂🌿
The no brainers of mental health >>
🥩 Protein provides amino acids for neurotransmitter synthesis
🍣 Fat support brain, cell structure and build your hormones
🥚B vitamins help with energy, metabolism and nervous system function
🍋Iron, zinc and other micronutrients - support essential processes in cognitive and brain function
🍞Carbohydrates provide fuel for the brain
But what happens when ultra-processed, nutrient-poor foods regularly make up most of our diet?
It’s not that these foods are inherently toxic…
It’s that a diet dominated by them can crowd out the variety of nutrients, fibre and beneficial plant compounds our bodies need to function well 🪽🌿
Sometimes the problem isn’t just what’s on your plate. It’s what your usual pattern of eating is missing💌🪽
Your gut microbes interact with processes involved in immune function, metabolism and nervous system signalling ⚡️🧘🏼♀️
Fibre-rich plants help support a diverse gut microbiome, while dietary variety helps provide different substrates for gut microbes 💖💁🏼♀️
When ultra-processed, nutrient-poor foods consistently dominate our eating patterns, there would naturally be less room for the diverse, nourishing foods that support our overall health 💫🌎
Research increasingly links poorer dietary quality and higher ultra-processed food intake with adverse mental health outcomes⚖️💆🏼♀️
So when I build my meals, I’m not just thinking about protein goals or how many calories are on my plate 🧏🏼♀️
I’m thinking about energy. Cognition. Gut health. Micronutrients. Recovery. Mood. And giving my body the resources it needs to function🤝🏼🧚♀️🪷
Because health isn’t just about looking a certain way!!
It’s about how we feel, think, function and live🧘🏼♀️🌿🌎💖💆🏼♀️
And that deserves to be part of the conversation🌹
✨ Save this as your reminder that nourishing yourself is about so much more than aesthetics ###
