🌀BALANCE SWIVEL SENSORY CHAIR 🌀

Looking for a simple way to support movement, regulation, focus and sensory needs? A balance swivel sensory chair can be a great addition to a child’s learning, therapy or play environment.

Benefits
The gentle movement and spinning action can provide opportunities for vestibular and proprioceptive input, while also encouraging children to develop 👇🏽

👉🏽 Body awareness
Learning how their body moves and responds to movement

👉🏽Balance & coordination
Supporting postural control and dynamic balance

👉🏽 Movement & sensory regulation Providing an appropriate opportunity for movement when a child is seeking sensory input

👉🏽Attention & engagement
Movement may help some children feel more organised and ready to participate

👉🏽 Core strength & postural control Maintaining position while moving can encourage active use of the trunk and body

👉🏽 Motor planning
Learning how to control, start, stop and change their movement

👉🏽 Fun & confidence
movement based activities can be motivating and enjoyable!

Every child responds to movement differently. Some children may find spinning regulating and enjoyable, while others may become overwhelmed or dysregulated. Always supervise use, follow the manufacturer’s age/weight recommendations and observe the child’s response.

This is one good way to provide meaningful movement opportunities that can support participation, engagement and learning. 🌈 Bluey approves ☺️

Stimming can look different for everyone 👋🏽
Stimming (self-stimulatory behaviour) is a natural way some people regulate their sensory experiences, emotions, attention and energy. It can involve movement, sounds, touch, visual experiences or repetitive actions.

✨ Hand flapping
✨ Rocking
✨ Spinning
✨ Humming or making sounds
✨ Repeating words or phrases
✨ Fidgeting
✨ Seeking movement or deep pressure
✨ And so much more!

Stimming isn’t something that needs to be stopped simply because it looks different. When it is safe and not causing harm, it can be an important form of communication, regulation and self-expression.

💭 Instead of asking, “How do we stop this behaviour?” we can ask, “What is this person communicating or experiencing, and how can we support them?”

Let’s create spaces where people can regulate, communicate and be themselves. 🫶

Weighted sensory toys are designed to provide deep pressure stimulation, which can have a calming and regulating effect on the nervous system for some people. They are commonly used as part of a broader sensory regulation plan when appropriate for an individual, however, they can be pricey $$$$$

🌟 I’ve found some affordable & cute variations (have you thought of a door stopper!?) 🌟

Some of the purposes of weighted sensory toys include:

👉🏽Promoting calmness: Deep pressure may help reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, or overwhelm.

👉🏽Supporting emotional regulation: Some people find it easier to manage strong emotions and return to a calm state.

👉🏽Improving focus and attention: The sensory input may help some children and adults concentrate during activities such as learning or completing tasks.

👉🏽Providing comfort and security: The weight can create a feeling of being grounded or “held,” which some individuals find reassuring.

👉🏽Meeting sensory needs: They can provide proprioceptive input (input to muscles and joints), which may help peop

Are your sensory toys not helping? Shoved in a draw? Not being used?
Whilst fidgets & sensory toys are a valuable source of regulation & stimulation, they’re often not being used.

Here are some of my top picks from Kmart that most certainly will be used !!! (I am not affiliated with Kmart - they just do amazing things) 🫟

👉🏽4 Ball massage roller: Deep pressure activates the proprioceptive system and helps regulate the nervous system. Roll on your arms, legs or back

👉🏽Yoga Ball: Deep pressure (Roll over your back and legs whilst laying down on your tummy), sit on it and bounce, roll over it, if space bounce it.

👉🏽Weighted plush toys: the gentle weight provides proprioceptive input that can be calming and grounding.

👉🏽Spinning chair: Spinning feeds the vestibular system.

👉🏽Crash pad: Crashing & jumping onto a crash pad provides the most proprioceptive input! - have you noticed your child jumping off furniture or crashing into things?

👉🏽15 piece Large couch play: carrying, stacking & rearranging the foam pieces provides labour work great for the joints, muscles, motor skills whilst providing proprioceptive input.

Not every disability is visible.
Some challenges can be seen, while others are carried quietly each day.

Awareness begins when we move beyond assumptions and choose understanding, patience, and inclusion.

Every person’s experience is valid, whether visible or invisible. 🤍
