Once we were able to properly settle back into studio life, it wasn’t long before we were ready for a little more room.

That one little studio eventually became four studios and a workshop space when we moved into our College Road premises in Kent Town.

It was another huge step for us, but by then the team and our community were growing and programs were expanding organically - into individual mentoring, music therapy, SLES and more group programs.

Our own little family was growing alongside LUV too, which made this chapter feel especially full in all the best ways.

Over time, something that had started with one Friday workshop and one little studio began to feel like a proper home.

College Road had its own little community too, and we were lucky to share it with some pretty special neighbours. Cafetal Coffee Co kept us very well caffeinated and Reform Distilling kindly hosted a number of our live shows and staff celebrations along the way. We definitely miss having both of them just down the road.

We settled into College Road for the next few years and it became the place where so much of LUV really took shape — and a whole lot of growth along the way.

To everyone who was part of those College Road years, thank you for making it such a special chapter of the LUV story. 💙

Not long after moving into our first studio, COVID hit.

We were still right at the beginning of LUV Adelaide... trying to work out what this little thing we’d started could become... and, like the rest of the world, the way we were doing everything suddenly had to change.

Almost overnight, our scheduled sessions moved online.

Thanks to our incredible team, we managed to keep all of those sessions going. It wasn’t how we imagined those early days unfolding and, like everyone, we were really just figuring it out as we went.

But looking back, it taught us something pretty important very early on: when the usual way stops working, you find another way. 💙

While we’ve been looking back at our story, we’ve also been looking forward. ✨

With some new ideas bubbling away behind the scenes, we'd like to collect some feedback from our community to help shape some of our future programs.

We’ve created a short anonymous survey exploring volunteering, work and meaningful opportunities for people with disability to contribute and be part of their community.

If you have a moment, we’d love to hear what you think. 💙 thanks for your support!

At one point, one of the biggest decisions for us was whether we should rent our own room.

Our friends at Mâché had so warmly welcomed us into their community, and we were running our group workshops in their beautiful space. But as our individual sessions grew, we started to realise we needed a space of our own.

When the opportunity came up to rent a room, it felt like a massive step.

We talked about it, worried about it, ran the numbers and eventually decided we just had to give it a go.

That little room became our first proper studio.

It was small, but it was ours...and we loved it.

As it turned out, we didn't stay in that little room for very long… before we knew it, we were looking for more space. 😅

Early LUV in Adelaide involved quite a lot of: “Trust us… this is going to happen.” 😂

We were navigating the NDIS, meeting new participants and working out where everything was actually going to run. We also needed people willing to believe in the idea before there was much to show for it.

Stefan and Ethan were two of those people. Renae joined not long afterwards and the team gradually grew from there.

We’ll always cherish the people who shared our vision for LUV from the beginning. 💙

LUV Adelaide started pretty simply — one Friday workshop and five participants.

Our starting five.

We didn’t have our own premises, and LUV was being built around other jobs, late nights and weekends. We were navigating NDIS registration and basically learning as we went.

There wasn’t some huge master plan. We just had a really strong feeling that this was something worth building.

From that first Friday group, individual sessions grew, more people joined the team and the LUV community began.

And one of our favourite parts? The Friday group is still running today.

LUV has changed a lot since then, but it has always seemed to evolve naturally, shaped by the people who chose to be part of it. 💙

Were you part of the early LUV days? We’d love to hear your memories!

One of the moments that really paved the way for what Lift Up Voices would become in Adelaide was when Scott, our Director and Social Worker, was working at a special education school.

A group of students had missed out on the chance to perform at a major music event. The disappointment quickly turned to…

“Fine! We’ll make our own show.”

Tori began volunteering each week, working alongside the music teacher to record the students and create their own performance.

The night was a huge success and left families asking: what’s next? What happens when school finishes? This feels so good… how do we keep this going?

Their young people loved creating, performing and being part of a community, so we began thinking, researching and exploring ways we could continue the magic that was unfolding.

And that eventually became Lift Up Voices as we know it today. 💙

We’re currently looking for a Registered Music Therapist to join us at Lift Up Voices.

We’re looking for someone who works well with others, brings a positive energy to the team and would enjoy being part of the creative, collaborative culture we’ve built at LUV.

Sound like you — or someone you know?

Lift Up Voices didn’t begin as an NDIS service. It started with Tori, Scott and Mauli packing up a whole lot of music and recording gear and heading to Jamaica.

It was there that the heart of Lift Up Voices was born.

They spent time in schools and children’s homes, using music and recording to connect with young people and experience the joy of creating together. Resources were limited in many of the places they visited, but there was absolutely no shortage of enthusiasm, generosity or community.

What started as a leap of faith became the beginning of Lift Up Voices Foundation.

The work of Lift Up Voices Foundation has since grown through music, film, education and creative projects, but the purpose has stayed the same — to give a voice to those who need it and use creativity as a catalyst for growth and change.
