πŸ’œ Meaningful connections start with shared experiences πŸ’œ

Everyone deserves the opportunity to meet new people, explore their interests and feel part of a supportive community. That's why The Support People's disability support groups are designed to bring people together through shared hobbies, activities and experiences.

From creative workshops and cooking sessions to social outings, community events and interest-based groups, our group programs offer opportunities to build friendships, develop new skills and grow in confidence. It's about creating a welcoming and inclusive space where participants can connect with others, try something new and enjoy being part of a group.

The Support People are proud to offer disability support groups across Ballarat, Bendigo and surrounding areas, helping participants build meaningful connections and feel included in their community.

πŸ’œ Today is Ageism Awareness Day! πŸ’œ

Age is just one part of who we are. It doesn't define our abilities, our potential or the value we bring to our communities.

Ageism Awareness Day is a reminder that everyone, regardless of age, deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and equality.

At The Support People, we believe in:

πŸ’œ Respecting individuality – recognising every person's unique strengths, experiences and abilities.
🀝 Encouraging independence – supporting people to make their own choices and live life their way.
🌱 Creating opportunities – helping people stay active, connected and involved in their communities.

Age should never be a barrier to inclusion, opportunity or belonging.

Together, let's challenge age-based stereotypes, celebrate people of all ages and build communities where everyone feels valued. πŸ’œ

πŸ’› Words like these mean so much to us. πŸ’›

One of our wonderful clients, Annie, recently wrote this poem about The Support People and the team who support her. Annie’s words capture what person-centred support is all about.

She finished her poem with a heartfelt thank you to her support team, saying they treat her like family. πŸ₯°

Thank you, Annie, for taking the time to create something so thoughtful and personal. We absolutely love it, and we're very lucky to have you as part of The Support People community. πŸ’š

🐾 A great day out at The Great Chase! 🎈

The Support People recently headed to the Great Chase in Bendigo, run by Greyhound Racing Victoria - GRV, for a fun day of greyhound racing, socialising and plenty of laughs.

Our participants got into the spirit of the day, cheering on the greyhounds, enjoying the racing and having a little flutter on their favourites. There were also balloons, balloon animals and lots of smiles along the way! πŸŽˆπŸ•

The Great Chase is a Greyhound Racing Victoria community program that brings together disability groups from across Victoria for an inclusive day at the races.

Days like these are about more than just getting out and about. They're an opportunity to try something different, spend time with friends and feel connected to the local community. πŸ’›

Thanks to everyone involved in making it such an enjoyable day!

πŸ’› Everyday skills can play an important part in building greater independence.

From preparing meals and doing the shopping to managing money, cleaning or learning to use public transport, Daily Living Skills are the practical things we use in everyday life.

At The Support People, we can support participants to learn and develop these skills using practical, step-by-step approaches.

It’s about building practical skills that can support greater independence in everyday life.

πŸ’› A wonderful new chapter for Louise and Jason

Louise and her partner Jason recently moved into Kallara Care, with Rebecca and Mollie from our Support Coordination team helping to organise their move.

It’s wonderful to hear that Louise and Jason are happy and settling into their new home. πŸ‘πŸ’›

To make the occasion even more special, Mollie accompanied Louise to Lush Culture in Bendigo, where she enjoyed a complimentary haircut and wash.

Louise felt like a million dollars after her pamper session! ✨

Wishing Louise and Jason all the very best as they settle into their new home. πŸ’›

πŸ‰ A great day out at the footy!

Last weekend, Dylan and Kaidy headed to GMHBA Stadium for the Geelong vs Richmond game.

Dylan, an avid Richmond Tigers supporter, was there to cheer on his team, while Kaidy, a proud Collingwood supporter, bravely ventured into enemy territory wearing her Collingwood gear! πŸ˜„

It looks like there were plenty of smiles and team spirit on the day.

Great to see you both enjoying the footy, Dylan and Kaidy! πŸ’›πŸ‰
