Ethical Nutrients Immune Defence Capsules (30’s, 60’s, 90’s).

On 17 September 2026, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) removed Andrographis paniculata (Andrographis) from the list of ingredients permitted for use in listed medicines in Australia following a review of its safety. This follows a safety review into the potential for severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
 
Metagenics (Aust) Pty Ltd, following agreement with the TGA, is performing a recall for all batches of Ethical Nutrients Immune Defence Capsules within expiry to 20 October.

Stop using the affected product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The TGA advises that Andrographis may cause rare, serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which is a medical emergency and can be life-threatening. If you experience symptoms of suspected anaphylaxis, call 000 immediately.

Anyone who is concerned in any way about the use of this product should consult their Healthcare Professional.

Welcoming Dr Derrick to Boyup Brook Medical Services

We’re pleased to welcome Dr Derrick to Boyup Brook Medical Services, who will be providing locum coverage while Dr Nilesh takes some well-deserved leave.

Dr Derrick will be available from Monday 19th October to Friday 13th November, with appointments available Monday to Friday. Dr Nandhini will also continue to be available on Fridays.

Originally from Melbourne, Victoria, Dr Derrick enjoys working in rural communities and exploring Western Australia. He has previously provided locum coverage in Kununurra, Carnarvon and Kalgoorlie, and is happy to see patients of all ages and with a range of medical needs.

Diltiazem 360mg is being discontinued, if you currently take this medication, please make an appointment with your doctor to discuss getting a prescription for 180mg (take 2 capsules instead of 1)
Until October 2027 if a pharmacy does not have any stock of the 360mg they have permission from the TGA to swap your script to the 180mg.

🛑 Discontinuation of diltiazem 360 mg controlled-release capsules – substitutions are available 🛑

Pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis Australia has told us that their 2 brands of diltiazem 360 mg controlled-release capsules are being discontinued in Australia due to manufacturing issues:

• Cardizem CD 360 mg became unavailable in June 2026.
• Vasocardol CD 360 mg will no longer be supplied in Australia from 1 November 2026, with reduced supply expected until stock is exhausted.

Diltiazem 180 mg and 240 mg controlled-release capsules and 60 mg immediate-release tablets remain available.

We have made a Serious Scarcity Substitution Instrument (SSSI) available that allows pharmacists to dispense diltiazem 180 mg controlled-release capsules in place of diltiazem 360 mg controlled-release capsules without a new prescription. The SSSI is active until 1 October 2027.

Controlled-release diltiazem capsules are indicated for the treatment of hypertension. They are also indicated for the management of chronic stable angina (effort-associated angina) where there is no evidence of vasospastic or unstable angina.

Boyup Brook Volunteers WhatsApp Group
I have been contemplating a volunteer WhatsApp Group for a while & after attending Peter Kenyons amazing sessions, I have decided to make it happen.
The driving inspiration I have for wanting a group of volunteers is that we regularly have patients needing transport to medical appointments out of town such as Bridgetown, Bunbury, Busselton, Perth, it can be very stressful for them trying to find a way to get a ride.
Some end up cancelling appointments because they can’t find someone to take them, some just don’t bother booking specialist appointments even though they are advised to.
But this is just the beginning, think of locals who end up in hospital suddenly & have pets at home that need care or a rubbish bin that needs taking out. Think of locals who are sick and can’t get to the shops. Think of locals who need an urgent part collected from somewhere. Think of local groups who need volunteers regularly or for an event.
The way it will work is locals join the WhatsApp group using the link listed or by messaging myself on 0458661099. Current members can add other members but all members will need to be approved by myself to join the group. I am conscious that we are potentially advertising the exact date & time that people will be away from home, so security of information is important & the reason I am not using a general Facebook group.
When someone has a need, a member can post a message & then someone who can volunteer to assist can reply to the message or contact the individual directly. Once a volunteer is found a message should be added to say they are sorted.
It is not intended to be a burden on anyone but a way of linking locals in a more efficient way. Please join & please let me know if your have any queries, Kathryn

Welcome Dr Nandhini

We’re excited to share some wonderful news with the Boyup Brook community, Dr Nandhini Rangarajan will be joining Boyup Brook Medical Services from Friday 18 September 2026.

With 31 years of experience as a GP, Dr Nandhini brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, along with a strong focus on holistic and ongoing care.

Dr Nandhini will be consulting at Boyup Brook Medical Services on Fridays, providing another opportunity for our community to access local GP services.
Dr Nandhini says:
“As a GP, with rich experience of 31 years, I always feel connected to my clients as first point of contact. The best part of it is holistic and continuity of care. It is rewarding to see the community growing healthy and I feel blessed to be part of it by providing necessary healthcare.”

Outside of work, Dr Nandhini enjoys yoga, meditation, reading about world history and civilisation, and spending time with family.
