Could regular exercise help you sleep better?

As we get older, changes to our daily routines, activity levels and sleep patterns can affect how well we rest at night.

The Australian Sleep Health Foundation highlights the importance of daytime activity, including exercise, in supporting healthy sleep as we age.

And exercise doesn't have to mean a gym workout. Walking along the foreshore, gardening or taking part in a suitable exercise program can all help us stay active.

At Sage Active Clinic, we help people build strength, mobility and confidence through exercise tailored to their abilities and health needs.

Stay active. Stay independent.

Want to exercise in a group, but not a crowd?

At Sage Active Clinic, our Exercise Physiology groups usually have just 3–4 people, sometimes even fewer.

Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists provide professional supervision, with exercises adapted to different needs and abilities.

It's a supportive way to build strength, balance and confidence while enjoying the company of others, without the crowds.

Do your legs feel weaker than they used to?

The muscles at the front of your thighs play an important role in everyday activities, including getting up from a chair, walking and climbing steps.

Bryanna demonstrates a seated knee extension to help strengthen these muscles.

She's using a resistance band, but you can start without one. Move slowly and lower your leg with control.

At Sage Active Clinic, we help people maintain strength, mobility and independence through individually prescribed exercise.

Muscles always feeling tight?

Stretching may help, but sometimes it's worth looking at what's causing the discomfort.

Myotherapy and Remedial Massage can help address muscle and soft-tissue concerns through assessment, hands-on treatment and practical advice.

At Sage Active Clinic, Yuval provides individualised treatment to support more comfortable everyday movement.

Do your shoulders sometimes feel stiff or restricted?

Wall slides are one way to work on shoulder mobility and control.

Bryanna demonstrates the movement using a foam roller against the wall. If you don't have a roller, a simpler hands-on-wall variation may be suitable.

The important thing is to move comfortably, without forcing your shoulders beyond their available range.

Foam rollers are also available to purchase from Sage Active Clinic.

Does exercise sometimes leave you with pain or discomfort?

The answer isn't always to push through it or stop exercising.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist can adapt the movement, resistance, range or exercise itself to suit your individual needs, health and goals.

Sometimes a small change can make a big difference.

Breast cancer treatment can change what your body can do.

Fatigue, reduced strength and changes in physical function can all make being active feel more difficult.

But exercise can still play an important role during and after breast cancer treatment. The key is making it appropriate for the individual.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist can tailor exercise around a person's treatment, symptoms, health and current ability, helping support strength, physical function and quality of life.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's worth remembering that exercise can be part of supportive cancer care.

As we get older, staying healthy isn't only about staying physically active. Having people around us matters too.

Social connection, feeling part of a community and having regular contact with other people can all contribute to our mental wellbeing and overall health as we age.

That's something we see every day at Sage Active Clinic. People come to work on their strength, mobility and health, but they also get to know our team and the other people they regularly see in the clinic.

Sometimes staying active is about more than the exercise.

Stay active. Stay independent.
