Today, we’re wearing our fun scrubs for a cause that matters.

Today, October 20, the team at Brighton Regional Doctors is swapping our usual workwear for fun scrubs to help raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and support their goal of Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Breast cancer affects thousands of Australian families every year, and research continues to play a vital role in improving survival and working towards a future where no one dies from this disease.

If you’re visiting us today and would like to support the cause, patients are welcome to make a donation — simply have a chat with our friendly reception team.

Thank you for helping us turn a little bit of fun into something meaningful. 💗

This National Carers Week, we recognise and thank the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend.

Carers may support someone living with disability, a chronic health condition, mental health condition, terminal illness or age-related needs. They can be parents, partners, children, siblings, friends or neighbours, and anyone can become a carer at any time.
Caring can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be demanding. That’s why it’s important that carers are supported too.

At Brighton Regional Doctors, we encourage carers to look after their own health and wellbeing, make time for their own medical appointments and speak with their GP when they need support.

This week, take a moment to recognise a carer in your life. Ask how they are going. Offer a hand. Make time for a conversation.

Sometimes, simply knowing that someone sees and appreciates what you do can make a difference.

To learn more about National Carers Week and support available to carers, visit carersweek.com.au.

Our staff will be wearing fun scrubs on October 20th to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Patients are welcome to also donate should they like, just talk to our friendly reception team.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) takes place every October. The aim of the BCAM is to shine a light on the devastating impact breast cancer has on thousands of Australians each day.

Every year over 21,000 people in Australia (including around 200 men) will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Every day 58 people in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Every year over 3,300 people in Australia (including 33 men) will die from breast cancer. That’s someone’s mother, sister, friend or family member whose life has been tragically cut short because of the disease.

Although the five-year survival rate has increased from 76% to 92% (and rising) since 1994 thanks to research, there is still progress to be made to stop deaths from breast cancer. By targeting the remaining 8% who don’t live past this survival rate, NBCF’s goal is to reach Zero Deaths from breast cancer.

Heart disease can sometimes hide in plain sight. High blood pressure, high cholesterol and other cardiovascular risk factors may have few or no obvious symptoms, which is why regular health checks are so important.

This World Heart Day, take a moment to think about your heart health.
Small, consistent changes can make a big difference:

• Be physically active every day
• Choose a balanced, heart-healthy diet
• Don’t smoke
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Know your blood pressure and cholesterol levels
• Attend regular health checks
• Talk to your GP if you notice anything unusual or have concerns about your heart health

At Brighton Regional Doctors, we can help assess your cardiovascular risk and support you with practical steps to protect your heart health. Talk to our friendly clinical team to see if you are eligible for a Heart Health check, which we can do right here so no need to travel.

Don’t wait for a warning sign. Take care of your heart today.
