Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 98 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting someone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

We are there when every second matters most. ♥️ For this family, the RFDS was a lifeline, transferring their little one from Townsville to Cairns for specialist care.

The RFDS is part of the Queensland Health aeromedical network. We work closely with the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and hospital and health services to ensure patients receive the specialist healthcare they need, regardless of where they live.

Last week, we welcomed four of our Gift in Will supporters for a behind-the-scenes tour of our Brisbane Base.

From former nurses to a supporter who simply loves what we do, they were amazed by the complexity of our operations and enjoyed learning more about what it takes to keep the Flying Doctor flying.

These tours are just one way we thank the incredible people who have chosen to leave a gift in their Will, helping ensure we can continue delivering vital care to regional, rural and remote communities for generations to come. ✈️💙

This headspace Day, we're celebrating the introduction of our two new peer workers, Levi and Boadicea, at headspace Cairns. Read more 👉 https://rfds.co/4dAHOZu

Drawing on their own lived experiences, Levi and Boadicea work alongside our mental health clinicians to provide additional support to young people, helping them feel heard, understood and reassured that they are not alone in their journey.

This year’s headspace Day theme, do nothing*, is a powerful reminder that looking after your own mental health and wellbeing can start by slowing down, taking a break and having a conversation with some who gets it.

Welcome to the team Levi and Boadicea! And thank you for sharing your lived experiences to support others. 💚

From red dirt airstrips to remote tropical islands, wherever care is needed, we’ll be there. ✈️🌴

This retrieval took our crew to a remote island in the southern Gulf of Carpentaria, with a pilot, flight nurse, and medical officer on board, ready to provide critical care to a patient in need.

Shout out to RFDS Flight Nurse Dempsey for capturing the view from the cockpit!
