OT Week 2026 is coming up, from 26 October to 1 November, with World OT Day being celebrated on Tuesday 27 October.

OT Week is our annual celebration of the extraordinary impact occupational therapists make every day.

This year’s theme, Participation Matters, puts a spotlight on one of the foundations of occupational therapy – the understanding that being able to participate in life is fundamental to our health, wellbeing and sense of belonging.

Help celebrate OT Week by downloading, printing and sharing our free resources.

📚✨ Our Brisbane speechies, out and about!

Paige, Olivia and Sophie headed to the University of Queensland’s Speech Pathology Research Night, connecting with the speech pathology community and hearing about research in our field. 💬

We love seeing our team’s curiosity extend beyond the clinic, making time to learn, share ideas and explore what research can mean for the children and families we support. 💛

💙 Bluey in Auslan! A favourite show - another way to connect.

Communication comes in many forms! Spoken words, signing, gestures, facial expressions, pictures and communication devices can all help children share their messages.

Using a combination of these is called multimodal communication. 💬

Just as Bluey in Auslan offers another way to enjoy the story, embracing different ways of communicating gives children more opportunities to join in, share their ideas and be understood.

At BillyLids Therapy, we value every child’s ways of communicating and support them to express themselves, share interests and connect with others. 🌈

Tara has been getting creative with a little DIY therapy resource! 🐶💙

Feeding the hungry pups is a playful way to practise scooping, using utensils, hand strength, coordination and turn-taking. It can also support imaginative play and language as children choose who to feed and what is on the menu.

At BillyLids, therapy is built around each child’s goals, interests and plenty of fun!

Using the “bed” visual to support b/d discrimination

The “bed” visual provides a simple, multisensory cue for children who confuse lowercase b and d. The b appears at the beginning of the word bed, with its vertical stem forming the headboard. The d appears at the end, with its vertical stem forming the footboard.

Ask the child to make two fists with their thumbs pointing upward and bring their knuckles together. The left hand forms a b and the right hand forms a d, reinforcing the letters’ orientation and their position within the word bed.

Pair the visual with:
The verbal cues “b at the beginning” and “d at the end”
explicit modelling of each letter’s starting point and formation
opportunities to identify and form b and d in isolation
brief practice within words, sentences and meaningful writing tasks

This strategy is best used as a temporary scaffold alongside explicit letter-formation and phoneme–grapheme instruction. Monitor whether it improves independent accuracy and gradually fade the prompt as the child becomes more consistent.
